Well, they've already disproved your theory, by conning 700k 'monkeys' to buy their game. That is the hard part. Now they just make the usual noises about future fixes to the multitude of broken stuff, added content that was promised at launch - meaningful PvP/sieging that works/raiding that works, amongst many other things - and the idiots believe the spin and lies. Unfortunately, the majority of MMO players are sheep and have no minds of their own. Gaming sites are paid to give certain scores for garbage games, or give them because they have played tailored content for half an hour. On the contrary, Funcom have learned a massive lesson from AC - how to market a mundane and uninspiring game - grats to them. |

One of two things is going to happen with AoC by the end of 2008. Funcom will make enough positive changes and/or add significant and initially promised, but currently missing content, to drastically improve the game so that whoever is still playing will continue to sub and play. and people will come back to play through info and word of mouth about the improvements as well as new subscribers and the game will be a moderate success. Or, the patches and changes/fixes will continue as they have been, which are very very minimal improvements and tech performance will continue to suffer so that by the end of 2008 when other games, importantly WAR, will release and spell the death blow for AoC. There will still be diehards playing it and it certainly won't be cancelled, but it will never be any type of success. The ball is in Funcoms court right now. They have ALOT of very disappointed and angry MMO players right now, but they do have a solid enough base of a game to build on if they choose to do so. As it is now though without significant changes, it will not succeed. |

Today a new MMORPG has ONE and only ONE chance to have an impact and that's LAUNCH. A come back is in no ways possible. Too much hype for newer games on the horizon. ... They never come back. Vanguard at what 50K players, LOTRO at 180K, TR 90K. D&DO, 80 K. They have exactly one month to create the hype AND launch a near perfect product. That month has passed for Conan. And the base btw isn't there: the graphics system is such a heavy weight champ that the lag and FPS drops prime the game fights in those so called epic 48vs48 battles (just like I predicted 4 months ago btw).

Well, 180K subscribers is nothing to be ashamed of in all honesty. And depending on how the game goes, there is a chance for a revival. You'll never get the same hype you did at launch, but you can make a slight comeback. Vanguard right now is having a large revival. |

AOC may never reach 1 million subs but , long term, it will probably do at least as well as LOTRO - if not better
sub counts don't matter too much to people playing the game tho -- what matters is whether you are having fun |
