UO made people nervous, now it just makes them dress funny. |
I played DAOC from about 2000-2004 (through Catacombs). There were so many great things about the game. My fondest memories, beyond exploring and making friends, were camping by myself, on my nightshade, outside of the Midgard realm keeps, waiting for people to come solo in the fronteirs; Darkness Falls; and trying to get a little exp on the PVP server. It really meant something to have to run 30 minutes across the map from your portal to the enemy's gates. The journey made you want to survive. It bridged the death penalty gap for those of us who missed full loot from games like UO. What ruined the game for me were the TOA expansion (massive raids, and leveling weapons and armor, yuck) and New Fronteirs. Although I still competed with fully crafted gear and an exceptional template, the microwave pvp produced by New Fronteirs was garbage, a la WoW. No consequences. Still miss it, but even DAOC in its prime was only second best to UO circa T2A. |

| Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks. |

You can either agree with me or be wrong! |
Played from release till they released NF which destroyed any last semblance of the great game around release that *I* remembered as Daoc. |

live is like a box of..... |
I did play for ovwer 3 years..
first 2 years on US roleplay servers which was the best experience ever, after that i joined the European servers to play with some real life friends..
I just didn't like the attitude at the european servers, it was a nich game and there was no roleplaying. I choose the wrong class in europe (Necromancer) where my heart was still in MIdgard. AFter ToA i grew tired with the game, as i had been playing with a very tight group of real time friends, the raiding content in ToA didn't appeal to me with my Necromancer. I tried leveling another toon (Sorceror) but it was to late and i lost interest.. AFter 6 years (3 years EQ and 3 years DAoC) it was time for a little sabaticall... I returned to MMO's with WOW and EQ2 (both in beta) soon after that tough

I played DaOC when it was open beta in europe. Then i finaly played as a Hibernia tree hugers, It was a very hard to level up insanly hard grinding in that day and the hybies had dungeons that didnt even drop loot or gold since it wasent even itemized yet. Only Albion and Midgar where beter itemized and had a easier time leveling up. Think i quited around level 50 im not so sure. Realm vs realm was kinda a keep zerg tho, and the 2 weaker sides always joinend forces against Midgar, in my server that is. I never bought any expansion, but I think it has changed alot since then? |

Played DAOC for years.Games get stale if they are not refreshed regularly . Mythic has done a horrid job with the expansions which actually ended up driving players away from the game.Mythic has never had the ability to listen to it's player base and be able to sort out the childish ranting of some players from the intelligent comments of others.ALL get the deaf ear...and unrelenting nerfing. |

I played DAoC consistently from 2002-2005 when Catacombs came out. I tried Catacombs and didn't like what the expansion did to overland groupinp, so I quit the Spring of 2005. I voted for the Classic servers, and was happy when they actually came out with them that summer. However, the Classic server didn't solve the lack of groups overland. I did learn to adapt to instance groups and played off and on since then. I don't play now due to server population. When they release the Origins server, I will resub. By the way OP, Mythic did hold up their promise to bring PvP to all lvls of the game, just not in the time you wanted them to. You can now PvP 1-50 and never kill a PvE mob if you don't want. It'll just take longer since not all BG's are active. There is also no game mechanic stopping low levels from doing RvR. I remember RvRing with my guild early on and I shot up in levels when we got some kills. If every realm included their low levels in RvR, it'd really work out better. So it's really the communities fault for being afraid to RvR in the lower levels. |

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin |
For me it was TOA. I really enjoyed the RVR...(and later the FFA PVP) 0had 5 or 6 characters at 50 across several servers. But then TOA came out, and forced me to go back to the PVE, or be left behind in terms of valuable PVP super-powers. I had never raided before, and I didn't like it. (I later learned to raid in WOW, and I still don't like it). They also added in item grinding..another hateful concept which I despised. I spent a lot of time leveling up my crafting, it should have remained useful. TOA didn't totally ruin that mechanic, that came in later expansions but I was long gone by then. So basically, they ruined a swell pvp game by forcing everyone to pve again. Hopefully WAR will never make that same mistake.

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander. |
Yes.
I am a powerplayer and I want NOTHING to do with PvP or Raiding PvE slugfest. Thinking in any other way of me, is been fooled by my cool, helpful, kind and overly gentle demeanor. |
