Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. |
With all the copies sitting on shelves, maybe the game price will drop down around 20? If so, I think I would grab a copy and play for a month. I mean, i've heard the first 20 levels make a pretty good single player rpg. 20 bucks is a good price for something like that I think... |

I hate to say it but Avery is right for once in that AoC did outsell WoW at release by double. WoW sold about 350k thier first week but after the initial sales sold out Blizzard refused to del;iver any more boxes for months until they had their servers under control. After a few months WoW only had 400-500 total population about the same as EQ2 before EQ2 nose dived to under 200k while WoW just went up and up. But there is one point Avery will advois as his bosses at Funcom will not let him talk about it thats retention rate. Funcom may have sold 700k accts but how many are left? 50k? 100k? 200k? I have never seen a game with a worse retention rate than AoC. Of the 40 friends I know who tried AoC only 3 (one has cancelled) have active accountsthe two left are considering quitting as they have no guildmates or friends left. Of all the guilds I know who moved to AoC which is 5 or 6 everyone has quit the game. I have never seen people quit a game faster. Its to bad AoC is nto a bad game. Its not a good game but its certainly not bad. Its hust a game that lacks substance, skill and replayability. More like a single player console. But even if AoC will be down under 50k subs ina few months it does nto mean they did bad. If they sold a millon boxes thats 50 millon minus their costs and retailers and whatever they pay Avery to write his amusing propganda pieces thats at least 10-15 millon back. Thats not bad for a failed game. |

And Funcom has been working on a new MMO too since 2005, so I'm sure they are ready to start hypin that MMO up in a similar, bloated fashion :P |

The bit in red is the quote of the reporter Caroline for mmorpg.com, and those guys told her that. If true its a number given to the public most recently. But you know you always have xfire (9k people and now 5k people logging hours since launch) and amazon.com (not worldwide stats) to rest your mind every night before bed. I for one am happy in game on a busy server.
EDIT: about the woW part, AoC also holds the record for number of pre-orders too. And all I was doing was replying to the OP who brought the topic up. Its not fair to compare WoW:BC as it released some time after the original. |

What's the point of you bringing up AoC outsold WoW at launch? Even a fanboy would have enough common sense to realize that Funcom have Blizzard to thank for the success of the initial box sales and only themselves to blame for such a poor retention rate after two months. |
