No, I don't think it can, with no real mainstream "potential WoW killers" on the horizon, all hopes have been placed on WAR as the new Saviour of MMORPGS, This Holy Grail which will in hope, dethrone all other previous mmorpgs. With player expecations set on WAR higher then any game can achieve. This is not WAR's doing either, Its the players.

I think WAR will be a great game, but I don't think it can live up to all the expectations, Players will not take notice of all the things WAR has that other mmorpgs do not, they will only see the things WAR is lacking.

And Dear God, I know i'm going to get flamed for this, but WAR is a great game, and is above the standard MMORPG bar, However I don't see anything groundbreaking, or revolutionary. ( Which IMHO is what players are expecting ).

To each his own.

It's DAOC + WoW. The things you loved from DAOC are now in a wow type interface/gameplay. I think it will rock.

Butt Kicking for Goodness!

WAR isn't a WoW killer.  Instead, it's a new MMO coming out for all of us who are sick of the lackluster and meaningless PvV in WoW.  Whether it lives up to the hype or not, I believe it will.

Nevertheless, I'm pissed Mythic hasn't figured out how to enable the ToK to distribute cupcakes. >_<

No, no MMO can live up to its hype after release. Just blizzard managed to hold the hype alive (I dont know, how, maybe lots of advertising).

This is the sound of what you don''t know killing you.

Why on earth would you spend anytime worrying about the expectations of others?

What's the point?

I expect that it will be a fun and entertainging game.

I couldn't care less about the fact that some jaded, pessimistic, angry kid might discover that this game won't be the answer to all of his earthly problems.

No one really gives a damn about hype.  What will make WAR a phenomenally sucsessful MMO is it is quite simply  incredibly fun to play. WAR will have challenges, it will face the same Hate that rabid WoW fans lay on any MMO that dares shows promise, but unlike other MMO's it dosn't have the game play and devloper issues that recent releases had.

Personally I could give two craps about if WAR will be a WoW killer...Blizzard is doing a fine Job of Killing WoW all by their lonesomes

World of Warcraft is the only game that can kill itself.

I could careless about all this "hype".  If the game will be anything near what the Closed beta testers are hinting at, than I see this game doing very well and being extremely fun.  Thats why im playing these games is to have "fun" and I think a lot of ppl forget about that.   What I personally know is that I loved every minute of Dark Age of Camelot and I see War being a lot better than DAoC thus making me enjoy the game for a long time.  There's tons to do, graphics look great, Gameplay looks great, the RvR sieges are going to be amazing as well as the city raids.   All in All im excited for this game and its been the first game Ive been excited to play since the olden days of EQ1.

What I do love about Mythic is they dont hide behind closed doors with what their doing unlike most game developers.  They've come out and told everyone what their working on, whats going to be in the game at launch, even Mark Jacobs, the Man behind War is posting amongst community forums.  How many other game companies can you say have done what hes
