Can anyone recommend a good mmorpg that is loads of fun, is full of mature players like myself (I'm 33), and can be played casually for 2 to 3 hours as well as long periods of time?

Any P2P mmorpg out there can offer that.

I always thought City of Heroes was a good place to find mature players, and also a good game if you wanted to jump in for a bit of messing around. It's not a good pvp game though, and  I wouldn't sugest it if you are a hardcore player.

Well....I would LOVE to be able to give you some good suggestions, but there are TWO problems with the question that prevent me from being able.

1)  You used the word "good."

 -----I don't really know what you'd think of as "good."  That's sort of a subjective thing.  Personally, I don't think any MMORPG out at the moment is what I'D call "really good."

2)  You used the word "mature."

-----Maturity, sadly, isn't well reflected by age.  I've played some games with some VERY mature grade school age children and some very IMMATURE adults, so...that again makes answering the question pretty tough.

The only real suggestion I could make, would be to try out the new MMORPG called Warhammer Online.  The game has a pretty rich gaming history that dates back far enough, that I'd imagine some "older" folks will be playing it, AND....from all the videos I've watched, previews I've seen and read, etc, etc....it looks to be what, at least I, would call "good." :)  However, unless you pre-order, you won't be able to play until Sept. 18.  So you'd have a tiny wait. =D

I guess I have it narrowed down to 3 games:

WoW- It has a huge population, people seem to enjoy the game, and the expansion will out soon and I really love to be a Death Knight.  I was a SK in EQ and I have a 33 rogue on WoW so I am not too far from being able to play as one.

Age of Conan- The graphics look terrific, I have always loved the Conan lore, and the combat system look very unique.

Warhammer Online- It's a new mmorpg, there has been a lot of buzz around it, there is a lot of history behind it, and there are some interesting classes like the Chosen.

So any recommendations or personal opinions on a choice?

to be a darknight in wow you have to have at least one toon to reach level 55.

age of conan wasnt all that. i got bored after a few days

if you are into rvr and pvp then warhammer is your best choice....that is if it will live up to its promises

what about EQ2

WoW can be nice for casual but you seemed to of played it before and only have a level 33. Did you enjoy it? If so, keep playing. If you did not, the expansion won't change things for you. A new class isn't going to change the game.

As for WAR, that's your gamble. People are saying its good, it looks good, and the developers say often that they are making it so you can log on for 30 mins and still have fun, so it fits your casual playstyle. And yes, the table game goes back to the 70s so I would guess there would be a good showing of some older folks, but that's of course a guess.

AoC - Just because you liked Conan lore doesn't mean you'll like this game. And while the combat is refreshingly new, its gets old and repetitive just like everything else, that won't keep your attention.

I play about the same time and is just a few years older... So it depends on what youre prefering-

Guildwars: Nice graphics, best PvP, no monthly fees on the plus side. The minus is that it is really instanced and youre rarely doing anything cept chat in the cities with more than 6 persons. Least lagg in any game because the instances, also the best programmed game I ever seen. Was down 30 min for the year I played it. Worth trying, you could get the first box really cheap or all expansions in a box for the price of any full price game.

EQ2: Quite nice game, very similar to wow but with a more D&D feeling to it. Good comunity but you have to play on a US server, EU servers stink. Nicer graphics than wow, about the same as LOTRO. If you want some good old fashion fantasy that isnt wow or DDO, than you should consider this.

AoC: I'm playing it right now, it is good for casual play. I really dont find the combat system boring, but that might be because I'm a ranger. Bad things is that the high level content is far from finnished yet. Doesn't really matter for a casual player as long as you think it will take you a few months to reach max level. Sucks for hardcore players playing 12+ hours a day though.

Then there is WAR but your guess is as good as anybodys there yet. Same thing with Spellborn.
