So, I decided to give LoTRO another try.  The last time I played it it's boredom level was on the scale of free Korean MMORPGs for me.  However, after some time maybe things would be different.

To begin with I'm choosing the 3.9gig (low-res) download instead of the high res 5.5gig or so one.  Unfortunately, my DSL has a maximum of around 50 to 60 kbps so the smaller download is overall better for me.  However, for some reason (despite picking the low-res version many times) it keeps picking a 5.5gig download instead.

Ok, fine.  I decide to go with that then and simply begin downloading it.   So a few days later the download completes and I go to install it but instead I get a corrupted file warning and the completed download is a complete waste.   Meanwhile, the free trial is ticking away.

That is pretty frustrating and maybe that is but one of many reasons why LoTRO's population is simply not as great as it should be because of the IP recognition.

So Warning,  anyone who wishes to play LoTRO but has a slower connection you might want to just find a disk or something otherwise you might just end up irritated.   I know now that I won't even give the expansion a try because I cannot stand incompetent setup of large file downloads (why not smaller junks with each one verified then you move to the next???).

Life is tough, life is even tougher when you''re stupid.

Would you rather try a "Referred By a Friend" key. Which is a 10 day trial of the entire real game, it's not a demo or whatever, but it's the full dowload, which when you activate the key it'll give you the download link,

Would you like to try that way..?

I don't know. =/  I'm probably jsut going to skip it entirely.  I'l just pick up a copy for like $10 or $20 someplace.  They are generally onsale or in clearance.

Probably its not the file that is corrupt, the file is just to big to unzip with WinZip! Try dowloading WinRar instead and you should be fine unzipping the file!

But what makes you think you will like the game better this time if you hated it so much??

That's a pretty good bargain.

But please be aware that regular boxes have only up to book 8, which means you'll have to download 1-2 GB of new expansion data.

Not sure about how Gold editions are?

People just remember to D/L the client before activating your trial key so that this doesn't happen to you. You can still d/l the trial and then activate your acct afterwards.

If you haven't deleted the files you can donwload again the download manager and that will check the install files, if some file is corrupted the download manager will repair the corrupted file.

This is not Turbine's fault, any file you download can get corrupted. I get them everynow and then and it is not due to the way the file is setup for download, but rather pieces of the file that get skipped or corrupted from mis-data transfers.
