How is WOW kiddie anyway?  Was Yhe INcredibles kiddie?  How about Lion King?  How about Anime?  WHat do you call DAOC or EQ, or EQ2 then?  "Crappy",  because its neither realistic nor stylized.  They just have a generic, bad art style with deformed, stiff, dead looking characters.

WoW has kiddy graphics because the character models aren't proportional and it fails to provide a stylized look. Check out TF2. That has an excellent art direction. Disney films and Pixar films provide superb art directions in all their films. I can't see how you can compare them to WoW.

DAOC and EQ fail in the graphics category as well.

How realistic can the artwork of something that doesn't exist be? Wow man that's the most realistic imaginary thing I've ever seen?!!

Depends on the game and how it's done. Most of all though it needs to be consistant within the game. A cutesy mushroom cottage would look a bit out of place in the middle of a mud hut village in  Iraq........

Even sandboxes have fundamental rules such as; "Don't eat the cat poop, you'll die."

my heart died a little...
Long Live SWG(PreCU)

I prefer whatever that fits the theme and feels of the game.

Some themes and lores/stories need stylized graphic to get the feeling going, and some themes and lores/stories need to have realistic graphic to create that feeling in the MMO.

Whichever one can create that feel for me is the one I prefer to play...

Waiting: Star Wars: The Old Republic, Xenjo Journeys Online (Chinese MMO), Hero's Journey, TCoS, Dynasty Warrior Online, Stargate Worlds, Champions Online, LEGO Universe

Current MMO: Warhammer Online, Florensia Online, Belle-Isle (Japanese MMO)

Past MMO: SWG, Lineage 2, VCO, 9Dragon, SoF, Hero Online, RFO, FFXI, PotBS, Perfect World, AoA, Cabal Online, Zodiacs Online (Chinese MMO), Mabinogi, CoH/CoV, WoW

Yet to Try/Test: AoC

WoW has the best stylized art in an MMO hands down.  The gear alone is breathtaking, those giant crazy armors full of detail.  Not to mention the lovely scenery.  I'll gladly take that over crap like AOC, where all the female characters looked like badly done 40 year old transsexuals who got their hormone therapy too little too late, and have muppet arms like Grover from Sesame Street.

Stylized art, like WoW.
I like my games to look fantasy, if they are too realistic they lose the attraction of the Fantasy genre.

Obviously in a Sci-fi I like a more realistic graphic, but because I usually play Fantasy, then a Stylized art is what I prefer.

For thing we know how they look, example a human, i want a Realistic look. But for things that we havent seen before, a dragon, orc or whatever....i can go for both.

But combat is a big "Realistic" monebt for me. I cant stand that cartoon combat we have today with light effects when a dagger waves in the air.

I dislike the Realistic look because it don't look realistic. Honestly, what MMORPG really looks realistic, instead of plastic?
