It'd be silly to try and ignore the fact these two franchises are going to be competing for the same customers. So let's not. I fell for the hype on AoC. Ya I got owned. AoC was pretty boring. I don't expect Warhammer to come out perfect and without bugs. I know it's going to be rocky at the start. Every MMO is. My question is to the long time DAOC and Mythic players and those who have been beta testing. Does this game have potential to beat WoW in an overall better gaming experience? |

Well the only game which will be a WOW killer is WOW 2 and I can't see that happening for aslong as WOW is still popular and selling and you know Blizzard fans never quit. Also WAR will have far less content and far more bugs and the average mmo player will feel like why play WAR when you can play the much better and more polished WOW? WAR is really only going to be for the niche market and will never be popular like WOW, maybe in sales at first but we'll see the AOC effect shortly after. Another problem WAR has is releasing before the WOW expansion so alot of people will leave and go back to WOW and also if the expansion fixes alot of problems people have with PVP like the crap battlegrounds then I can expect the WOW expansions PVP to outshine WAR's.
I can see WAR being popular amoung the best of the rest like EVE and EQ2 etc etc but never get to WOW's standard. |

I think this game has more potential than most other competitors. AoC pales in comparison. |

If the pvp is half as good as they claim it will be (all the RvR, instanced "bg's", and open pvp), then WoW will lose everyone from their pvp servers. The pve players will stay, but no pvper in their right mind can call themselves one and not play Warhammer. |

"Will WAR have a better overall gaming experience?" Well your question would seem to be based upon personal preference. The answer is different for everyone. Now if we are talking about a "WoW Killer" in terms of population. Honestly, probably not. I'd be extremely surprised to see another mmo hit WoW like world wide populations anytime soon. WoW's release was extremely well timed, imo. The older mmos were getting stale or dated, EQ2 didn't seem very appealing and anything else was extremely niche. WoW not only cashed in on having mass appeal, but the fact that so many bought the game for the Blizzard and Warcraft names alone. WoW brought many new mmorpg gamers into the genre, more so than any other mmorpg. I guess WoW is to MMORPGs as FFVII was to North American RPGs, it just brought a ton of new blood into the genre with a mass appeal. WoW still continues to have that mass appeal too, with the sheer amount of carrot-on-a-stick content to be had, there's always better loot, unique mount, rep to be ground, arena ratings, to be attained. WoW is also PvE centric, which means that folks who are not confrontational by nature will gravitate towards it. Where WAR has the potential to hurt WoW is the pvp population. WoW's pvp is an utter joke. Battlegrounds and World PvP have taken a severe backseat to their overhyped and underdeveloped Arena E-Peen/Sport. Gear and resilience rating play such a vital role in PvP now that any fresh 70, or hell alt in lower tiers, gets completely stomped by folks who have already spent tons of time and money into the system. There isn't a way for a casual player to truly compete in such a system, or even break into the system with any chance for immediate success. It seems Mythic's RvR system was the way to have a "mass" appeal to pvp, as DAoC was the first successful mmorpg to focus on a pvp aspect as endgame. WAR will hopefully continue to cash in on the uniqueness of the RvR system and bring a lot of fun and tactics into pvp again |

My expectations for WAR is not hype or disappointment, since i already know what to expect since i've been following this closely for years now. When i finally got into beta, i was very very ....sorry can't say due to NDA! If you're playing new MMOs to see if it's a WoW killer, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Play the MMO because you want to, not because you have to. |

Originally posted by observer Well I'm trying to establish whether it's worth giving up one to play the other. Trying to find out if Warhammer has any edge over other MMOs especially WoW So far everyone has been saying indirectly it's not going to compare to WoW except for the fact it's pvp might be better I'm just trying to get a feel as to how Warhammer stacks up so far from a bera standpoint. What types of things does Warhammer have that the others don't? |
