I went to best buy the other day to pick up a WAR preorder box. While I was there I saw a big fresh cardbox box practically overflowing with copies of Age of Conan. Thinking that maybe this was a new shipment I asked the clerk if they were still selling as much as  they did at release and gestured at the box. The clerk just laughed and told they werent for sale - because they were *returned* copies.

Since when did Best Buy allow returns of opened software?

Who knows, possibly around the time companies started printing lies on the box. If they receive enough complaints and the customer can prove that the product was misrepresented by the developer or just downright not functional, they will often make exceptions. Its all in how you approach the clerk at the return desk. Apparently many made a big enough stink about it to get them to cave for this particular game.

You have to remember that Best buy is not run by fanboys or funcom employees, they are run by rational adults that know whether its worth it to piss off customers and lose business by not allowing a return on a bad product. Its possible the manager and employees gave it a try and realized it was bad as well.

As for me, I'm not quite so good at bartering with the clerks, so I just chalked up my purchase of the game as a loss. I wish I had the money back, I could have used it to buy something that was good, but oh well. At least others seem to be having some success.

While I didn't get clarification from the clerk, I highly doubt it was a full refund. It was most likely just store credit.

A person should not automatically adopt another's opinion, good or bad.

That said, a person should still take advice. If you hear lots of varied opinions on a product, make your own choice. If you hear an overwhelmingly positive sea of opinions about it, that's a pretty safe bet. If you hear an overwhelmingly negative sea of opinions about it, it is usually a good idea to stay away.

Yes, there is always that tiny chance that AoC is a great game that is simply surrounded by bad press. Yes, it may just be that you have to try it for yourself to realize that all those angry bloggers were wrong.

But that's such a small chance. It's just so much more likely that it is a terrible game, and that even if you LOVE it, it will be shut down so that Funcom can work on their latest "project"

90% of the world is ignorant.. The other 10% just don''t give a fuck..

Hmm.. I wonder was it this easy for charles manson..

I'm one of those "strangers" who don't really care who spends money on what (unless they are buying one of my hookers).. So why would I waste time trying to "convince" someone why not to play a game?

I'm sure if they really wanted to play it, they would have just took the plunge and bought it anyway.. So obviously they were already  little weary from the start..

2) Ask yourself "What do I feel like trying to do?  I can't craft level 80 items because my guild's city isn't high enough.  I don't feel like farming for hours and hours ( I want some action, I want to improve my gear and/or get some high level quests done)  Maybe I'll try to get an epic kheshatta group"

3)  Start spamming "80**** LFG >>> epic Kheshatta (add any other high level quest area as well) pst"

*note* this is where it usually ends and you log off, in the amazing chance you get a group....

4) Group forms up and heads to epic Kheshatta

5) camp is taken, move on to the next one

6) do step "5" any where from 1-5 times and then give up

Well my experience is a bit different.
1. Log ON

2. I load  in Kashetta and while Iam still thinking what will I do some starting to beat me up while my "protection" is still on.  I hover over the protection buff and see 9 seconds to go, I buff my self and start gaining some distance and as soon as the buff is off I beat the crap out of him.

3. Now checking my guild window to see there are 34 members online, I ask in guild chat whats up and members are responding we are in Epic Kashetta now grinding and protection our spawn as we get attacked by other groups every now and then.

4. I joined them and do some grind there for like 20 minutes ( got lucky with 1 epic too ) then one of the members suggest lets go to normal Kashetta and grind that camp for gems so we do it.
Once we port there few more members wanna join and asking in what instance are we .. checking the instance window I see 5 instances we told them come to Balder and lets make 3 groups.

5. Around 1.5h pass since I log in its 17:30 GMT and people are getting raid for our Black Citadel Raid.
The raid is over within 2h and around 10 members were put out of rotation so I ask them what are you guys up to, the raid is over ... they responded we are fighting with few russian guilds at city in kashetta, all of our raid moves there and what we see is almost 2 full raids of russian guild against several other guilds and us. After around 45 minutes of fighting there is like 28 members online we still have 1 raid group goin on but russians are logging off.

Well thats above average day in AoC.

Average day:
1. Raid either BRC or vistrix
2. Some group farming in epic or normal kashetta
3. 2 days per week we dont raid but are doing boosting groups .. 1 boosting group of lvl 60 and 70 and another 12 man raid for protection.
4. At least 3 to 5 mini games to boost up our guild points.  ( 3 to 5 for me )
5. Some open world PvP group vs group or raid vs raid.

But as some mention AoC is quite boring because there is not much you can do the only thing beside raiding is the content you create for your self.

We wanna do sieging but its borked, we wanna get pvp XP points but they are not implemented, we wanna have PvP weapons/armors but there are ingame yet etc...

If you are in casual guild or solo there is really nothing to do to be worth while once you reach level 80 until they provide some decent end game content ( raiding is far from enough ) players will leave the game.

AoC is worth all the money if you dont mind qutting the game once you reach max level, you have great combat system, quests are good and funny, you have great graphics etc .. ( keep in mind the game will crash from time to time, there are few annoying bugs and if you cant stand that do not buy it ).

p.s. I feel sorry for WAR couse the same ex AoC fans that were bashing WAR few months ago and now are speaking like WAR is 2nd comming ... wait 2 months after WAR is released and just keep track what will they do.

Well fortunately for WAR its not a 1-20 Tortage wonder. They took plenty of time to flesh the game out, RvR really is the end-game complete with rewards and endless progression.

It's not about trying to sway someone's opinion or letting them try it out to decide for themselves.  The box literally contains false information about what is inside of it.   Missing direct X 10 is not an opinion, it is a fact.  People deserve to know if the packaging does not reflect the contents of the box.  Letting someone else pay $50 to play it won't make them find direct X 10, it simply is not there.   You did the right thing by letting someone know the box lists features that are not in the game.
