"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch

So after I heard the news of the new PVP update, I got excited.  I looked forward to the old days, where my friends and I would PK whenever we had to oppurtunity.  I looked forward to being in huge wars, getting good loot, and all the other things that go with having a world of open PVP.

I decided to make a new account and start all over.  The reason I am beginning to play now is because I wanted to make money so I won't be poor once the PVP update rolls around.  So I make an account and begin the tutorial (which is much, much worse than the original tutorial IMHO).

Let's fastforward to after the tutorial, shall we?  Once they finally take me out of the instanced tutorial and to the land of RuneScape. I begin my adventure.  As I first spawn in Lumbridge, the community attacks, and attacks fast.  Immediately I hear discussions about how some eight year old has a girlfriend, and about all the current break-ups between these little kiddies..ahh yes, the good ol'd RS community.

After hearing about ten minutes of the rediculous crap that floods the public chat, I grab my bronze axe and walk over to some trees.  Since my main goal was to make money, I didn't decide to train combat until later on.  After cutting trees for 15 minutes, I couldn't take it.  I don't think I've ever had such boredom in an MMORPG before....the repetitiveness and simplicity of the skills just shows that this game was designed for the same kiddies talking about the current break-ups in Lumbridge.

That's when I realized:  The game was still the same, it [will] just have PVP.  RuneScape still has the same horrible community, RS still has the boring skills, RS still has the boring combat, RS still has the trade updates, RuneScape is still RuneScape.  I logged out, and I will not log on again until that PVP rolls around later this year.

With games like WAR, TCoS, AION, and APB on the horizon, why would I waste time on RuneScape?  I want a game that actually keeps me interested , and that is targeted towards an older audience, that actually takes some kind of skill and brain power.

I tried coming back to the game I once loved, but it is pointless.  RuneScape is still RuneScape.

Yup, nothing except the move to the new PvP system changed, if you didn't like it before you deffinetly won't like it now or in the future.

Runescape is still Runescape, it's still one of the top MMO's out there with a huge player base. At the same time the MMO genre didn't move an inch in to better development.

So yes i have to agree with you everything (which includes RS and other MMO's) is still the same.

I play to have fun, not to win or be the best.

I think you've faced what most other POES have come across. I might make a blog post of what it is, but I won't say it here.

I lost all my dignity a long time ago.

"Milk was a bad choice."

Hmm well I can't imagine starting a new account now. I think the only reason I liked the game so much is because I started playing it when I was 15 lol. If I were to start playing again with a new account I know it's going to be boring. Luckily, I still have my old account which is permanently muted, but I guess I'll give the new pvp a try on f2p. I'm not paying $6.00 a month for runescape. So I am willing to see how the pvp updates will turn out.

However, like I said already, I don't think these updates will solve anything. At least not until Jagex fixes what is already wrong with the game. I seriously think Jagex will find a way to mess up this update too. They messed up a lot of what we thought might have been good updates. Summoning and the Grand Exchange are two examples. So, this pvp update will most likely not be enough to get me playing again on a regular basis, but I am willing to check it out.

Oh and in case you were wondering what I got muted for. It wasn't for scamming or swearing or anything bad. I got muted for simply trying to buy an item. Apprently I was spamming when I typed in "How much agility potions????????" over and over again.

Yeah, I will never pay for RS again, it's not worth the boredom.  I would much rather put my money into a good MMO, where I know they won't screw over their players, and they actually look at their appeals.  I refuse to pay money to a company like JaGeX.

At best, I will be casual (I can't stay logged on in that game for logn than an hour) and just play the free to play version, but only once the PVP update releases.

As for the updates, you're right.  Like I said in my original post, RuneScape is still RuneScape, and the only ones who can change that is JaGeX (and they clearly won't).  It still has all the bad features that it had when we all quit, except now there will be PVP.  I actually believe the community has gotten worse ever since I quit; it truly is a horrible community.

"Adjusts ponytails and pulls the lollipop out of my mouth"

Yea I know what you mean mike, I have logged on randomly recently and helped a few kids here and there but then the community attacks any time you try to. You tell a kid how to do something they didn't know and it sets off every spamming noob around you like wildfire. I was telling a guy how to make better $ on the game than he currently was and he was thankful .. but then other random noobs chime in calling me a no lifer, loser fat geek, and many more insults just because I was trying to help a guy. I can't even log into my high level acc anymore without being harrassed like mad.  I still have tried to help new players even when everyone here knows how I feel about the game itself.  It really is sad what they have done to this game, I will always remember how it started though when no one cared about levels, there was no spam, people respected each other.. but those days are long in the past  they drove the community into the ground with their decsions.  I remember when I used to get excited about their updates, and tell everyone how great they were going to be .. and then they messed them all up instead .. over and over and over again.. I never could figure out why they would always do that? I just have come to accept that Jagex wants their players to suffer, like they get a kick out of it or something. It has seemed to me for years that they would think of exactly what would be great for the game .. then do the opposite, or tease players with it by mentioning it and then messing it all up.. I don;t understand their logic.. I don;t even know if they use logic, because they never seem to make any sense ! ahhh the frustration!!! Trying to figure out why Jagex does the things they do makes my brain hurt. LOL

Why didn't you just use your old account?

Why start over?

I'm sure if I started over from scratch, I'd probably get a bit down, too.

Actually, that's not true. I have a bunch of noob accounts as well. Those early levels always seem to be the most fun.

Oh, and a word of advice: stay out of F2P. It's all grievers and complainers.

I am sure he started over because yes it's true the early levels are the most fun you are going to have in this game. Yep, that is all there really is lol.. You get maxed stats and it is all downhill from there.

P2p community is worse than the f2p community. P2p is full of people who think that it is a great thing to stockpile meaningless pixel cash so that they can spend years of their lives in order to buy a bunch of poorly drawn pixel junk so they can dress their toon up like princess barbie and run around saying "look at me I am the bigg3st n00b!" LOL!  See some of us out there are not all that impressed with stockpiling useless junk .. it just doesn;t do anything for me . I have owned every item in that game, done every quest, killed every monster and expierianced everything the game had to offer... which wasn't much in the overall fun dept. The truth is that all that loses it's luster after a while and nothing in the game seems worth the effort it takes to get it. Games are meant to be played for fun, excitement and entertainment.. which this game is lacking in all these aspects simply because they designed it for suffering not fun.
