Would girls be attracted to Sci-fi style of gaming? We know that the sci-fi movie industry is huge compared to the adventure, which is why many developers now are wondering if that could work in mmo's as well.

But the question is, with 45% women player MMO's would they like a Sci-fi mmo?

Forum Poll

Would girls be attracted to a Sci-fi MMO?

Yes absolutely
Yes, as long as we are not too far into the future they will understand
No, sci-fi is not a girl-thing
Never, no matter how good you make it my girl would never touch a sci-fi

"You do not get old and stop playing, you stop playing then get old." -- Unknown

Honestly, I would not know what my opposite would like, but I would have figured sci-fi would be much larger in percentage than lets say, fantasy. Sci-fi demands a bit more mature audience, which women tend to gravitate more towards (sorry guys, but we are the immature ones  ). But I think it really depends on how the MMO content within the game is created. EVE is sci-fi but I would not think many women would play because of the nature of how EVE plays. So I am going to stay netural on this subject.

A game where all the male toons are wearing Sketchers.

Or Axe body wash.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I wanna know, cause sci-fi used to be a nerd thing that no girl would hear about and I think that has changed today. So many successful films like the new Batman are in a futuristic world setting and they sell well.

"Adjusts ponytails and pulls the lollipop out of my mouth"

You know this is a funny thing about me. I love sci fi movies,  I have a very high tech home, environmental controls, computers running everything, high tech materials,  i love my blue gas sculptures, holographic tiles, bubble light walls,  and light up everything. I decorate in modern industrial minimalism... but yet I can't stand to play sci fi mmos.. lol I like fantasy based ones, or historical.  I don't like flying ships, fighting with laser blasters or light sabers.. it just doesn't do the trick for me. I can't stand anything tech or mech when playing games. I would prefer a game where I am in the wilderness left with a pocket knife and have to  build and make everything myself  then use everything I make to kill everyone I see, but instead of shooting them or blasting them I want to tear them apart with my bare hands or whip them or  beat the snot out of them with my 5 inch heels .. now that sounds more like something I would want to play, but hey that is just one girls opinion.....

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

YES! i would love to be able to remove my stiletto's and proceed to stab somebody with them

and though i am a female, i love sci-fi. always have. but its hard to find a decent sci-fi mmo.

i like eve, as do most who get into it.

but i'd really like to see a good game where you actually have legs and can get off your ship and do some hand to hand combat, too

regardless, imo, the fantasy theme is way overused, and getting a little tired.

war is peace
freedom is slavery
ignorance is strength

I am a guy, but am similar in that I like sci-fi movies and use technology around the home extensively. I also agree that I would rather play the game you describe than a Sci-Fi MMO game.

MMO = fantasy, FPS = modern day warfare and RTS = Fantasy, Modern Warfare or SciFi

Again, the cool chicks aren't from WA state. :)

Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?

- Sun Tsu

Yes and no but I do know alot more girls that are into Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune then girls that are in Lord of the ring, World of Warcraft, Warhammer.

Sci-Fi is not always as dark as medieval and fantasy. I know alot of girls will be playing Star Trek and Stargate.

Then again... I hang out with girls that are hardcore Quake, Unreal Tournament and Doom 3 players.
