It looks outdated because it is. The screenshot is from 2006.

Now really, the easiest thing to change in a game is animation, textures and effects.

Anyway, I'd be interested to see your definition of gorgeous. The picture has to be from an MMO.

Looking "good" or "best" is subjective.  While I personally find graphics and gameplay both a must.  I don't think you two need to argue over it anymore.  It's like the whole WoW graphics debates that still go on today.  I look at them and see something unique and interesting.  You might look at them and say "cartoony".  I mean honestly who's to really say which party is right, when it's something based on personal taste, just like food.  Not everyone likes the same thing.  *Shrug*

Im sorry, Darkfall graphics are just too outdated (2008). the character graphics too cartooney and simple. In addition the animation particle effects is just too bland

I suggest you take off your fanboy glasses before looking at screenshot as Lineage 2 looks signficantly better than Darkfall.
 

Darkfall is the biggest joke ever , even single player rpg's look and play better than this .

hell, I hate Lineage 2 and I agree with Gameloading. In addition graphics isnt everything. Wait until you guys play it. Its just bad all around

That's definitely true. Anyway, some old games do look excessively bad to the eye, no matter what. The taste comparison can be done, when they are pretty much on the same par.

To give an answer to your analogy, it's not like people would do taste comparisons between burnt food and something that has been cooked perfectly.

I skipped most of the comments because they are frankly irrelevant to me.

I will admit that I enjoyed a few years playing DAOC and a few months playing WOW.

However, the best, and longest, gaming experience of my life was UO. UO was shot using what could best be described as a hybridized 2d/3d system with a fixed 3/4 bird's eye view. I loved every second of it and by all accounts, though revolutionary at the time, the graphics are awful.

If Darkfall's gameplay comes within 90% of UO's then as far as I am concerned it is a massive success. And since the graphical display of Darkfall is far superior to that of UO, then I would say that Darkfall is correct in billing itself as a next-generation MMORPG in the style of UO.

So, if you tell me that in essence I am getting something that resembles UO, but richer in content and with better graphics, and Darkfall is able to deliver even a small majority of what is promised, I will be very happy.
