Hubba Hubba! (After 5 minutes this is the best I can come up with)

Does science fantasy mean spell chuckers with blasters or space suited sorcerors? When I think of science fantasy I always thing of sci fi that is over the top.

Kind of a conflicting term . I mean, when you think fantasy there's two types, High (Elves, Dwarves, Orcs) or Low (Conan). But science fantasy would be...Warhammer 40K? People combining technology and magic with some Orcs thrown in because Orcs are awesome? I don't know. Lol.

Eheh, well in the case of ryzom the answer is simple: the civilization of the homins is in a 'fantasy' era, with magic having a major role. The karavan represent the sci-fi part, with their starships and high tech.

At the moment, tho, they are a bit misterious and don't give full knowledge to the homins. So, sci-fi it's a minor part now.

So, the term come from the lore and not from the game mechanics. Anyway, being the original storyline based on 3 planets, maybe some more sci-fi could have been in game. I don't know if the new team will resume the original concept or will make other changes.

According to lore, homins are descendants of humans from Earth, who left thousands of years ago when Earth was destroyed by aliens. Homins came to be on Atys when one of the convoy ships malfunctioned and they ended up crash landing. Due to Atys being completely organic ( no metals ), they couldn't repair the ship and instead adapted. Later on after the Homins established their societies, the Kitin were awakened. upon seeing the Homins, the Kitin began the task of trying to eliminate them.

And then the Karavan and the Kami showed up, and helped the Homins force back the Kitin and rebuild. The Karavan and Kami both watch over the Homins now, but both are cautious in what they share technology wise.

Goozex.com Try it, you'll like it.

Don't have sigs with a cheerleaders butt swinging in it, or the prudes in the Age of Conan forum section of mmorpg.com will demand the mods have it removed.

Karavan tend to use technology to do things. So I "cast spells" using hardware Amps. We Karavan landed on Atys and are trying to take advantage of the resources.

The Kami are native, and have an innate magic that comes from Atys. Natrually, they don't really like the technology people.

Take your pick

As Arthur C. Clarke said:

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

The Karavan, who pose as "ambassadors of the Godess Jena", are just that.

Homins have a fairly low grasp of "technology" with a definite lean to regaring it as a form of Magic.

The Kami are adapted from the Japanese Lore of "Nature Spirits" that reside in everything and form a great natural conciousness.

There´s more to them both than meets the eye and both have some shadowy goals that they try to hide from the homins. We´ll see if the new Owners will continue the storyline. *hopes*

MMORPGs are a business like a dairy-farm. You try to get out the maximum of milk with a minimum amount of moo. It seems all we get these days is moo.

So if you wish to tap into the more sci fi part of the game is Karavan the way to go Or are all the races pretty much going to play the same ?

each faction gives you rewards for services - those are weapons, armor, clothes, tools and other gear. naturally karavan gear all has a really appealing techie look.  So if that's what you are after - yes Karas is the way to go :)

As for science fantasy - karavan fly spaceships and shoot lazers, kamis do magic and look really magical. while homins themselves can muster both spells, swords and autolaunchers  :)

Where did you get that? It's almost correct and almost completely wrong at the same time.
