Top 5 MMOs:
EvE
Ryzom
AO
GW
LotRO

Time for me to say goodbye guys.

While I've only been posting for a few months i've been a lurker on this site for over five years.

Todays MMO genre as a  whole Is lacking and has become a  theme park suited to the mentally challenged.

When the majority of the community calls players that want a complex, immersive and challenging game world "No lifers" it's time to go.

No longer do these players want a complex game that takes years to master, No longer do people want gaming to mean anything, no complexities, no risk, They don't want to put any time into a game world.

Everything needs to be spoon feed to them, they need powerful avatars with minimal effort and god forbid they would need to play with other individuals at all.

So i bid thee farewell It's been nice and Maybe in 5-10 years this genre will evolve and be playable again.

Edit: A few posts down someone actually tried to use the "we've grown up" line on why simple mmos are in atm.

You are talking to a father of four and a husband with a full and part time job. The feeling you have of needing to play a simple MMO due to RL is all a state of mind you can enjoy a complex game world with limited play time. Stop using the I have a life excuse its BS

EDIT2: Now if I could just find a way to cancel my account with this forum.

Final Edit: Am I the only one that has noticed MMO's becoming simpiler to play? This is the only genre that has gone the way of romper room as "evolution". Look at all other genre of games, FPS, Rts, Racing, single player MMO, action they all have evolved and become deeper and more technical with robust features.

Oh and no I don't consider myself mentally superior to anyone, but I will fight back when players call me a no lifer for wanting more than what todays MMOs have to offer.

Yes I did defend Ryzom but that game along with Eve are a dying breed due to the masses wanting unforfilling games.

Peace ./hug

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG.

Can I have your stuff?

(watch out for Darkfall fanboys posting about how you should wait for this vaporware to come out and revolutionize the genre. )

I have to agree on this. Dont know what went wrong? But many players today defend the theme part MMOs from evolving into the things MMOs are supposed to be. massivle multiplayer online role playing games.

Now im happy if i can find more then the meaning of online.

Most of those "old school" gamers that you are talking about, well, have grown up.

We dont have time, no could we care to spend the time to play those games. I just want to spend a few hours playing a fun game, not learning how to play.

I can have fun if I can play, and the wife leaves me alone for a few hours.

For me it's not so much the complexity but the polish and gameplay. Multiplayer and Single Player games are sooooooo far ahead of the mmo genre in terms of gamplay and polish. I mean I don't want to play a dated buggy game these days and I want to play something upto the stanard of Gears of War or Call of Duty 4 for example. I'm sick of the gameplay being like how Yahtzee said "stand there kicking eachother in the shin and the person with the biggest boots wins with the only tactic being run away when you're losing" lol. I mean this is still 90's gameplay and no good mmorpg has tried to come away from this. I'm just sick of the whole genre on the whole being the same game but with different graphics.

My friends whose first and only mmorpg was WOW are now looking for something different and some of them liked EVE because really its the only mmorpg out there worth playing thats different for that niche audience. However most of them don't like it because it's slow and has no avatars and they looked at WAR and I'm not joking here but they all said "WAR looks rather meh and the graphics suck" and I ask why and they say that they don't want to play another WOW.

Thats totally true we were down the pub on friday talking about mmorpgs and this whole WOW vs EVE vs WAR thing came up and people were looking at us funny and all of us who wern't playing EVE were bored of the genre and wern't interested in WAR and I'm the only mmorpg veteran out of the bunch but even the WOW people are bored.

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included.

I've come to the point where the only fun I can have on a mmorpg is griefing. Today when I came back to WAR beta and made a healer and just followed a guy in a RVR area for ages and every time he was going to die I wouldn't heal him.

I mean the game is soooo boring thats the only fun I could have.

This is 100% true. I have to sneak in my gaming during my kids naps, after they go to bed, etc.
