Hello everyone I've always played FPS multiplayer games, and I've always interested in trying out an MMO, so several years ago I tried WOW, and I was sorely disappointed (no offense to the WOW players here) but it seemed like the game was just so slow and so much walking (no offense to the people who like to walk). So I gave it up. But its always there in my head and with all the MMOs floating around, I thought to myself theres gotta be a game for me out there. So recently I tried AOC (i know I probably shouldnt mention AOC because just the mere mention of that game seems to inflame people worse than hemmoroids, but anyway I liked it, I guess the Key to these games is the Role Playing, Yeah i agree AOC has some issues, especially the PVP aspect of it, coming from FPS games where its not the class or the time spent online that matters, its the skill so with that in mind I have a couple of questions hoping some of you could answer 1. What do these terms mean -nerf, raids, and if there are others I should know please feel free to share 2.Is there an MMO pvp that doesnt solely rely on the level of the player I mean i Understand a level 1 shouldnt be able to beat a lvel 100 but something a little bit more skill based 3. Is AOC really that bad compared to other MMOS (no fanboy answers from either side please) 4. I'm trying to immerse myself in the lore of AOC but its kinda hard when, I'm told by NPC that I'm the one, the Messiah the one who will save the world, only to find out that all the other 10 subscribers of AOC were also told the same thing. I dont mind doing quests small time more in keeping with the Role playing aspect of it, what game has that. 5. Is there an MMO released or upcoming that has real guns and have a FPS control system and real gunbattles (wishfull thinking). Thank you |

well you could look at TCoS,it is upcomming so you would be there for the launch. It doesnt have guns but it does use FPS tactics as in you have a sight that has to be aimed and hit the enemy for your spells/attacks to hit. The game also has alot of what you asked for like a much lower level can beat a higher level if he is more skillful, although the higher level would have an advantage due to more powerful spells but if you can outplay him and avoid better than you can win. here is a link to the offical forums and a link to the sticky on this forum http://tcos.com/sbforum/?sid=&lng=en http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/192358

1 - Nerf is a common term used when some aspect/class/spell/etc in a game needs to be toned down, or something has been toned down ( or balanced ) in the game. Raid is the common term used to the action of several ppl ( a group of groups ussually ) going into a dungeon whit tought bosses. 2 - My take on this would be to tell you to go and try EVE online, theres a 15day trial, BUT first it is a VERY different mmo from the usual u'll see, its VERY complex ( wich i find good ) and its also a niche game so its not for everybody, once u get the hang of the game to be able to Compete whit 3+ years old players you NEED to focus on a certain role and in a couple months you'll be just as effective as them.
Just dont listen to what ppl say actually, and try it yourself it may or not be for you. but 15days trial cant hurt right?
3. IMO, its a good game, what have so many ppl "upset" is that FunCom, told A,B & C would be in game, and at realese they werent, even if printed on the box (DX10 for example )
4. Yeah well that happens in some mmo's
5. Tabula Rasa has a FPS game style ( IT IS NOT an FPS in the whole meaning but its the closest you'll get) and its a very fun game, it only lacks endamge, but its cool and i think it has a free trial as well, so there you go find em and try em along whit EVE so you can make the call. Thank you |

That's what Ctrl-+ and Ctrl-- are for. It changes the font sizes. |

Don''t mock me my friend. It''s a condition of mental divergence. |
1. Nerfs are when the developers make an ability or class worse because the playerbase would not stop whinning that it was too powerful. Raids are are dungeons that are also second jobs that require large groups like 20 or 30 or 50, they also require you to do them over and over and over again to get the best loot, then keep doing it some more so your guild can get the best gear. 2. There are mmos that allow people to play on a more level ground like Guild Wars but as for skill based no there isn't, MMOs are pretty much all about boring random dice based combat where you character assumes all the hard parts so that the player can exert minimal effort, err... I mean tactical combat. 3. Depends on what you mean by bad, if you like games like Eve than yes AoC is bad, there isn't enough micromanagment or flowcharts and you can get to places in a timely manner. But if you just want a game where you can run around kill various things with some friends then it works fine, I think the combat is meh and the world is meh, all around a ok game. 4. The games with quest usually try to make you feel like you are doing something special, you could always try a game with no quests what so ever like Ryzom, where you are left to amuse yourself. 5. No, sadly, most people would not even consider the game to be an RPG if there was actual aiming happening. |

i'd suggest you play Tabula rasa. Also some games you might like that arent out yet would be fallen earth and Earthrise, and maybe WELL online. |
