Well I've only played the two preview weekends but I'm trying to come up with some strategies before launch. So far open world rvr seems to consist of two masses plinking arrows at each other while a melee occasionally runs in and gets tab targeted to death while his target gets healed by 5 people. Unless it's a highly organized guild where all the melee charge in together and assist they don't seem quite as useful as a ranged class in this situation. Would an entire guild of bright wizards be feasable? It doesnt seem like a proper pve guild is a necessity anyways. The scenarios on the other hand seem to be completely random and leave me with no clue. Anyone else come up with any theories yet? |

Zerging is always a popular "tactic" as far as real tactics go.... |

Leave me alone. |
1. Hit the guy that everyone else is. 2. Make sure I am faster running away than at least 1 dude in my group. |

They don't call the space between two opposing forces "no man's land" for nothing. As in all combat prior to the mid 20th century, if you are going to cross no man's land... you have to do it en-masse, with force, coordination and support. Or, you can always try to flank the enemy and wreak havoc by surprising them. It seems both tactics are being employed in RvR, although there's probably a lot of horde behavior where nobody is coordinating or has a clue.

Zerging is useless unless people assist. Tanks should know NOT to over extended. Tanks and melee dps willhave to learn when and how to charge and when to pull back. Took me a while on my marauder to notice I was been King of Noobs. Support should support. Give it some weeks and you will see guild groups kicking people. Tier 1 tends to be zerg vs zerg in a chaotic way because none of us know what we are doing. Tier 2 start getting better. As more and more guilds are getting finally to play together, I am seeing more and more AJing. Today a guild group flanked Order and attacked them by behind when they were pushing on a BFO... there were around 10 destro in that guild warband and around 30 order... most orders died and some were able to withdraw to there warcamp... was a nice thing to view.

Anyone trying to RVR without 7 years of DAoC experience is in for some rought times. I expect alot of whines from the zergs about getting rolled by people with not even half their numbers.
The zergs will be crying nerf left and right! |

Id say its just a question of time really. You can only run around mindlessly into certain death so many times. Eventually people will realise that meele need to form a front line and stay together. And ranged/casters/healers stay back and support them. In a few months time when people get a hang of the game, you should see this form of basic organization taking place, with guilds launching strategic attacks to cripple/flank the opponent. That should make for quite a sight. The game is a new experience for alot of people playing it. Give it some time and it should work out |
