I recently started playing Swg yesterday and the game seems fun. When I tried to convince my friends to play they all said the game gets so much hate from the community that it is seen as uncool to actually play this. Have the old vets of Swg done that much damage to the player base of Swg? Do these players not realize that some hardcore SW fanbois would actually still enjoy this game? I'm basically sitting here with no rl friends to play with because old players feel the need to spread negative feedback due to a grudge with the company? After about ten hours of play I can easily see that this game is better than every F2p and a couple P2p mmos (TR being one of them). It's almost like MMO terrorism, I feel bad for the current Swg playerbase. I understand that the Vets are upset and wish the SoE devs would DIAF but seriously are you trying to ruin a decent mmo experience for your fellow mmo gamers aswell? It just seems silly to me to have people sway others away from a mmo like that. Edit: I guess the Vets win since none of my rl friends will play this game it's only a matter of time before I get lonely in swg and leave. kinda sucks

The vets didn't do the damage. SOE and LA did. The bad word of mouth this title gets is an effect not the cause of its problems. |

Well to be fair, I think the vets have every right to post their opinion about the game. I do not always agree with their current assessments of gameplay, however, they certainly have the right to be bitter at the underhanded way in which SOE changed the core game.
As far as you RL friends go I can only think of 2 things: 1. Get your friends to try the free trial --- no matter what others say, it should be a personal decision what games you choose to play or not to play 2. Make sure you are playing on one of the more populated servers like Bria or Bloodfin, there are still more than enough players there to have a good virtual community. My RL friends who still play now live a continent away, but that is the beauty of an online game, we can still keep up with each other.
Again as far as the angry vets go, do try to walk a little in thier shoes. Thier game was taken away in a most decietful manner. I am glad you are enjoying the game. I play it as well and still find fun things to do. (I really like the new crafting and will always enjoy space)
And you might be surprised, even though lots of the vets do not think highly of the game, most of them agree that people should try the trial version to make up thier own mind. |

I understand that the vets are upset, hell I would be freaking pissed. I just wished all the hate would be directed toward the devs not the players. I've seen posts from vets saying things like "if you still play swg, your opinion doesn't matter" things like that just kill me. if you look at these forums every post that asks if Swg is good or if a new player should start playing all these guys say is its a dying game and its worthless and you would be a noob to play it. Maybe these vets should tell people why this current version of the game sucks, break it down for me and don't put it up against a game that no longer exists. Instead of just saying its a dead mmo and making players feel bad for playing the damn game. |

Some posters make very personal attacks on people who play the game. That is true. But I really think you would find most vets will say that if you are enjoying the game, good for you.
There are always going to be few people who will spew vile. My best advice is that if you enjoy the game, encourage your friends to give the trial a go and just ignore anyone who tries to flame you for that.
And if you ever want to read some well constructed perspective from the vets, I would suggest reading some of archangels posts. |

That's the power of word of mouth, and I think that's a good thing. At the very least it should encourage companies not to treat their customers like disposable trash. |

10,000 people saying something sucks does not make it true. If the item does not suck, then 1,000,000 will say it does not suck and easily drown out the 10,000. SWG is not an example of this, however. It is the exact opposite. There are only a handful of people who attempt to gloss over the combat system, the bugs, and the lack of commitment to fix things from SOE. This is all while they continue to collect $15 a month. Most people can see when they are being taken advantage of. Some really love Star Wars and previous commitment to the game makes them blind. Like others have said, if you are enjoying the game, great. It is NOT anything the vets have said that have damaged this game. It is the continuous changes and lack of professionalism displayed by the dev team (past and present) that tarnishes what could have been and what will be. To me, your post is pretty much a flame. You might want to reconsider what you have written if you want to keep it unlocked... |

I used to think, (somewhat), the way you do until they CHANGED the game on me, also. They are always after that elusive playerbase that they don't have and willing to sacrifice the playerbase they do have to go after them. It's just a matter of time before they get you, too. If you like SWG (in any of the games it has been), they will find a way for you not to like it. The only constant in SWG. |

You want to know why the vets give this game bad word of mouth? Because SOE absolutely 100 percent deserve it. The game is still mismanaged and the community totally ignored the latest gem the TCG (getting an expansion planned before a game expansion) despite its obvious encouragement of gambling and giving crafters the shaft, has caused many users to lag like crazy and require bringing up the task manager to shut the game down. Instead of commenting or addressing this issue SOE just gets the forum mods to lock and delete the posts complaining about it due to this I have cancelled my account again, I'm not waiting around to see if hoths any good when the game is barely playable. The bottom line is that although certain devs may be doing a good job, the people in charge still make the same horrible mistakes adding content users don't ask for and ignoring game issues and community made ideas, the latest producers note proves this by pretty much saying tough to pilots main issues and saying we have an answer for low pop severs although we're not telling you what it is! Sorry but you can't blame vets for low subs, SOE did the damage and they deserve their rep If you want to prove to new players that its not bad then they have a trial to see for themselves.
