You should know that all true vets of the pre-cu game are strict carebears and would never touch any game that has PvP. They want SANDBOX.
They want to be able to be a dancer, armorsmith, scout, chef and ranger all at once. And the ability to drop professions anytime to begin a new grind in another profession, it's all about choice and never being able to make up you mind. Thats SANDBOX!
THe grass is always greener somewhere and SANDBOX demands that you can always grind to that goal.

Hallelujah!

LMAO... I'm going to assume Gutboy wasn't around when there was a REAL sandbox, pvpers depended heavily on the sandbox enviroment- where did you have to get your best weapon? Yes a weaponsmith, where did you have to get your best stat armor and get it sliced to cap resist? Yes an armorsmith and smuggler. Sandbox is not the get your best gun or sword from Mustafar quest x and y and get your uber backpack from ISD or get your uber belt & cloak & more weapons through collections.

But I have to agree with some of the other posters, if I want to pvp I've got Call of Duty 2 & 4 and such, people that play MMO games JUST for pvp (and hates pve) doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

  Over 90% of my time during the last year before the nge was spent playing my bounty hunter  and killing jedi.  About the only time I ever did any pve in that time was to get some loot and credits to help further my goal of killing as many jedi as I could (I ended up with exactly 300 kills).  So yeah, I guess I'm a carebear.

Gutboy.....Obvious troll is obvious.

Play something else.

Hmmmm, you display a clear "SOE" attitude. To make it full PvP cuts out about 80% of the market; thus it won't be very successful.

Why don't you tell CCP EVE isn't successful.  Oh wait... it is.  And it has full PvP.  Amazing.

exactly there is already one game out there like it. How many other people will subscribe to a game like this, if they are already playing eve?

EDIT: BTW this thread is off topic being in this forum, wont be surprised if its locked soon.

EDIT2: would also like to add, that the game world is alot smaller then it should be, and from the looks of it there wont even be any player housing like SWG(mainly because the world is too small). I would like to see a link or some quote from the devs saying they plan on expanding to other continents or something in later patchs/expansions.

Playing: none
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ
Looking forward to: Earthrise, Kingdom Under Fire 2

Your current players are your foundation for future success.

For the record Earthrise will not feature PvE and PvP "zones."  It's all one game world.  It closely resembles EVE territory.  Yes, there are high security areas where NPCs will stand guard over players but the bulk of the island is lawless and 30-50% of the game space is reserved for the territorial warfare system.

That's not to say this game won't have PvE but if you want to go out adventuring and kill some mutants you should probably prepare for PvP conflict as well.  This game does not divorce PvE from PvP nor does it segregate them.

I friggin love PvP, and if the PVE zones put me at risk of player attack, I'd love it all the more :)  Just my style.  I respect others aren't into that, but this is me.

Currently I do the PVE content in City of Heroes PVP zones, just hoping someone will attack me lol.  I especially like when stalkers come after me, it makes me feel sexy :)

Stalker are a stealth-based villain class that act as assasins btw, very ninja like.  I love'em.  I love to kill'em! wee.

If they have an SOE attitude like yours, they won't be.

MMO's should allow players to interact with each other realisticly. That means fighting them if the need arises.

I didn't know the definition of "interact" was "fighting".

edit - here is a quote from one of the links:

"Earthrise will also feature full PVP and full looting, meaning you can be attacked anywhere and if you don't have your items insured, the attacker can loot your corpse and take your items."

to me this means you can't go out and pve unless you're willing to pvp at any given moment.

Yup, sounds like a niche game; not something I or most people will enjoy.

"Denial does not change reality."

While I have no issues with constual PvP within a game, I have zero interest in one that is full PvP. For me, there are times I enjoy PvP, and I also enjoy the  times I go out to do quests or harvest materials with out some yahoo and his pals ganking me for their amusement at the cost of mine.

This game may satisfy the PvP players, and I will be happy for them  - - but the game would be financially far more successful if they also offer PvE/consentual PvP servers instead of only full PvP servers.

I don't like PVP, yet enjoying WAR

I don't like dumped down games, yet I enjoy WAR, go figure, to me a game needs to provide me with entertainment/fun

Earthrise - Official Site

Already have my eye on the game, not truly following it, but occasianly read up what is going on.

Complete repository of all known information about the game to date.

  • No levels, classes, or professions: pure skill system;
  • Every item player crafted;
  • No instances;
  • One Game World (ala EVE); and
  • Open PvP.

And most importantly, when is it due for release?  Beta is this autumn.  Release will be Q1-Q3 2009.

Join us!

But I pretty sure that regardles what they seem to promise to me seeing HOW tech is evolving, seeing HOW people complain, seeing what people enjoy, I still believe I personaly will not see THAT AWESOME MMORPG anytime sooner then maybe starting actual development in about 3/5 years from now. But like I said if the game provides me with fun I am sure to be playing it, as that is what I do as a gamer play games for fun, if a game isn't fun enough to continue I see no reason to stick with a game. Hope Earth rise turns out great for those really waiting for it. But then I hope that any game ever made and is going to made will be good for gamers if not for me hopefully for others.

Exactly. It may satisfy a slice of a slice of those of us who enjoyed pre-CU SWG, but it will be nothing like it. It is misleading for anyone to suggest it is.
