Originally posted by sookster54 Good part about CoH/CoV pvp, you can't get camped. There are defense drones that put up a perimeter around the rez area, then there are multiple directions you can take to exit the rez area. My favourite example for this is the highest level PvP zone. This makes my enjoyment of PvP in this game even greater than my enjoyment of pre-cu pvp. Although the massive pvp battles on Lok will always stand out to me as uniquely excellent. For solo pvp I'll take CoH, but for massive battle pvp, I'd take pre-cu :). There are some pretty cool team pvp nights in CoH, but I've never seen anything like what we used to have in SWG for epic scale. As for "whiny pvpers," I also like that CoH has a mature subgroup of pvpers. We're sportsmen and sportswomen that truly enjoy the contest. The PvP is strategy based, fast paced, but not short-lived. It's very cool to build a superhero template all the way up the levels and then take it into a zone and see how you do against someone else's supervillain. The range of powers you can put in your build is really amazing. It's pretty wicked to have flying heroes, teleporting villains, stealthed villains, ninjas etc. all whipping around in the same zone. PvP really can be done well. There are a subgroup of what I would call griefers and/or trash-talkers, but the game doesn't lend itself to that style of play. It makes it hard. When I come across a griefer I respond with a two-step approach (1) /ignore, and (2) kill repeatedly with wreckless abandon lol. Works for me :). So hearing that this new game has a large pvp component excites me because I really do enjoy the sci-fi genre, and don't have a really good sci-fi game to play yet. Hopefully they'll look at games with good pvp systems (CoH being one example) and learn from their successes. Hopefully they'll also look at what makes some pvp very frustrating. Being able to camp the rez or respawn area, or shuttleports in SWG, is a good example of what not to do. Another thing I didn't like about NGE pvp was that the fps aspect of the game was a bit ridiculous without collision detection. When the game was more role-play type combat, with a queue and what not, collision wasn't so much of an issue. But when the game went fps, it was like playing a broken version of battlefront, which really sucked (simply put). I also didn't like the NGE PvP in that I was just gunning people down in a matter of seconds. You'd get all ready to go, make your way to the place the battle was, and then it was over in a few seconds one way or the other. Very little strategy, and the bugs for things like heals and specials and resurrection made it unbearably frustrating. So, hopefully this game will have no respawn camping, collision detection that works, skills that all work consistently, and combat that is exciting, but also strategic and not over in two seconds. I'd like that anyways :) |

Isn't this game FPS? I looked at this game a while back, and liked a lot of what it is trying to be, even though I am not a PvPer at heart. But the FPS combat is a deal breaker for me. |

Earthrise looks okay, but as I've said before, Crusades looks more like a fit to the old SWG cravings. http://www.vizualfxstudios.com/crusades/ Exploring, colonizing, skill boxes and different races with their different perks. Earthrise looks and kind of sounds like if AO mixed with Planetside. I'd like a more purebreed MMO again. Crusades looks like it'll quench my thirst. Still, these are kind of exciting times for Sci-fi/cyberpunk with Crusades, Earthrise, Fallen Earth and the possible/probable KOTOR MMO. |

Well maybe it is just twitch combat. I just remember that the combat system turned me off. |
