One thing you need for Eve, (i'm not sure about jumpgate evo), is that you need friends. Strength is in numbers. You need a corporation to hang out with and run stuff with them. That is how you don't get constantly blown up. And lets face it. Getting blown up is fun and enacting revenge on enemies is even more fun. It means more when the stakes are real. Not the pansy WoW just die over and over again attitude. |

You know... I am not a pvp'er either, but I loved PVP in the original Jumpgate. Believe me, it has nothing to do with WOW... it just adds an element of danger to space exploration, and you don't have to engage in it per se. If you get ambushed at a jumpgate (which would happen in JG) you can always try to evade. If the new JG is anything like the original, there is plenty of friendly space. You just need to venture into the "danger zone" sometimes to get to interesting places. |

PvE is like playing an offline game, just the others disturb you, thats the multiplayer part. When I want to shoot, butch, kick etc that *ing mob, and one steals my prey, and I can't shoot the thief, I get annoyed. I would rather play offline to grind. I like the principle, you have to PvP to get better chances of PvE.
Eve Online is the 7th largest MMO as per active paying subscriptions atm. http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart2.html If I were a publisher, I would want them. |

Originally posted by schawo Unfortunately, that is true for most of Eve's PvE. Doing missions as a group is usually not necessary. With very few exceptions you can solo anything. It is a lot different with PvP, here numbers and coordination count. Read, you actually must work together as a fleet. IMHO Eve's PvP is the real endgame, unfortunately it is not exactly casual-friendly. Both earning the money for high end ships and defending 0.0 space require a significant time commitment. From JGE, I hope for a flight/combat model that makes PvE more fun and interesting. If NetDevil can inject a good dose of Freelancer that would be nice. Mmmh, dogfighting between asteroids... |

Honestly, carebears have no business playing MMORPGs to begin with. (Or starting threads at MMORPG.com, for that matter.) Nintendo published Wii Sports for a reason. Man up, or go back to play with the kiddies. |

I geuss you never played Jumpgate?
If you did play it, you will know OP that Devil will never adopt your pvp approach. The pvp was epic, lots of 1 on 1's and galaxy raids. I miss jumpgate :( |

PvE and PvP servers.....
yes please, i loved, Starlancer, Freelancer, and Freespace ect. for their PvE content as well.
I certainly don't want a retarded EvE like space mmo!!!!
Sick and tired of spending hours after losing a ship through coincidence, to make a new one, thogh there is some "excitement", it's one of the number 1 reasons why people leave or take a break from Eve, and whose to blame for it? Losing your beloved ship, because you were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, where a smack gang was at the right time and place.
A little more forgiving, would be nice, i don't mind blowing up and all if the "costs" aren't that painful but the biggest cost in EvE, when you lose a ship is the time you will waste on building the next, unless you made a reserve ship for that particular reason.
If the JGE team is looking at WoW's pvp, then i can at least be sure that people won't be leaving the game, when they blow up in space. And that's understandable, we want to have fun in these games, not grief each other but i can see there are people here, who seem to just want to grief people, what kind of sad lives they must have to resort to such moves. Risk is okay if it doesn't become a giant turd of "turn off", when you lose a fight like those it's suppose to make you wanna try a rematch soon, not making you consider leaving the game, because it just became the day's biggest buzz kill.
Good pvp games are great fun, whether you win or lose!
I'm sure some "wannabee superstar" will be flying through and say how awesome he is and how big a carebear i am through this but that will just proove my point of what sad excuse they are.

Slightly off-topic as you're talking about PvP penalties here, but I can categorically state Qmire that you will NOT see the kind of ball-achingly painful penalties for getting your ship blown out of the sky that you see in EVE. It was tough enough in Jumpgate Classic. Without a good supply of gear, if you were shot down you were looking (at least back in the early days of the EU server) a good 30-40 or more minutes to get back into your ship of choice and gear it up. Jumpgate Evolution, as of writing, should see you ending up back in your ship of choice when you get killed. Rather than needing to re-kit your ship, all ship hulls start with stock equipment. So you'll not need to fly around, get yourself decent engines, better weapons, etc. Basically, as I understand it you'll be able to "leap straight back into the fight". Ultimately, the game not even being in beta yet, this is all speculation but that's how it's been hinted at by the likes of Hermann. As he once said in an interview (paraphrased) "I don't understand games that encourage you to PvP and then punish you for doing so." |

It's ok for them to want to make money, that's their whole goal ayways....but NOT at the expense of doing whatever they can like Blizzard to obtain every moron that can comprehend a login screen, and that can dupe their parents into the monthly subscription. The community in a game can make a game thrive or die just as easily as mechanics. | |
