Sad. It was bad enough when distributer was publisher, but now internet host is publisher. How many publishers do they need? (Clue: IF they had a publisher, the publisher would get a distributer and a host for Adventurine, as well as act as a billing agent, do customer support, and pretty much everything else except development.) |

well...GNi isn't serving as a publisher. They are merely hosting a server. But I do agree with your second half of your statement. Its a VERY bad idea. If the servers crash, the devs cannot go right into the servers and reset them...because they dont own them nor have access to them directly. A lot of people are excited that they have someone to host their servers but it really isnt a good idea. Also, I agree with the publisher issue. The current Greek publisher has had VERY limited experience in terms of distrubution...only Greek translated VHS and DVDs. In addition the publisher has had zero gaming distribution experience. While they may have experience in distributing in Greece, they have zero experience in Technical Issues. We'll see what happens but it isn't exactly a common road for a game developer to have a VHS/DVD distributor as their publisher. |

Does any company host their own servers? Blizzard and Sony use AT&T for hosting. If outsourced server hosting works for them then why not DF? Also I do not agree that the Greek distributor is inexperienced as they handle distribution, and I would presume translation, in Greece for some major Hollywood studio's. There is no discernable difference between movie distribution and games distribution, in most retail outlets where games are on display there are movies right next to them in identical packaging. |

What about server remote administration ? It is possible ... If AVE can deliver any hollywood dream since 1962 they sure should be able to ship the DarkFall CD..
