I'm still a bit careful about this game, at least until the beta is running and we got a real release date. Right now my hopes are in Spellborn (and Guildwars 2, but thats more based on the programming team there, their past games talks for themselves, GW, Warcraft 3, Diablo 1). Anyone knows any games the DF guys or some of them worked on before? Usually hints on how well they van program a game. I would not call DF vaporware but Im always careful... |

So, to make it REALLY SIMPLE: Both involve people using the client, connecting to a server, and playing the game. In order to test hardware, people must use the REAL CLIENT and PLAY THE FREAKING GAME. The hardware testing simply puts blinders on to address any big issues that come about with the engine itself. It is the earliest form of a beta, because it addresses major issues that might be found which could significantly impede the playtesting phase. Playtesting opens the game up to more things (and more people) to identify more subtle issues (bugs, glitches, etc). They are just different phases of beta. I can't believe this is such a hard concept. Either there is a sudden decline of intelligence at work here this week, or DF trolls are really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find something to hang on to still. |

Testing hardware does NOT require the gameclient. All it requires (in theory) is a benchmark program, nothing more. What people are saying here is that this is NO guarentee whatsoever that there will actually be any playable content AT ALL. We are still talking about a company of barely 2 hands full staff, 7 years of development and no history whatsoever. |

because they're again announcing a "soon to be" segment of beta testing, while stating that they're going to be "admitting" people based upon hardware, but NOT to playtest... doesn't that sound like some type of early alpha testing or something? isn't the point of beta testing TO playtest the game to try out different sections and work out the bugs... at least in closed beta... open beta is more of a stress test and finding bugs when large amounts of people are playing....
like i've said before... gods-n-heroes was almost on the shelves before it became vaporware.
i hope the game comes out and is great. but i'm not idiotic enough to be a worshipper of something that's made promises for the past decade and never lived up to one of them... that's like an off-brand version of smedley.
but whatever... people have to mindlessly worship something i suppose.
but back to the original thought -- this is not an announcement of beta... testing hardware configurations while NOT playtesting is NOT beta testing.
but hey, they have 3 days before october... maybe they will get thru this alpha-esque testing in time to hit closed beta in october... then open beta... then go thru publishing and release and get the game to the stores by dec 31st and actually release in 2008.
for the fanbois that are still clinging to "they didn't say 2008"... i guess you didn't watch the trailer... in english, at the end of the trailer, it states "coming in 2008".
but if they don't make it... don't fear fanboiz... there's always 2018. |

let me think for a moment.
09-26-2008, 03:13 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, this is a small update on our current activities: Since September the 22nd we've been running tests to make sure that Darkfall runs properly on a variety of hardware configurations. Any external people are being selected strictly by their hardware configuration and are selected and let in gradually. Absolutely no other criteria come into play other than hardware. Also, we are not playtesting. If you are selected for this hardware test you will be notified by email to the address associated with your Darkfall community forum account. Once we've concluded this phase, we will gradually allow more people in based on various other criteria associated with the testing needs. We may not announce the start of every phase. All the testing up to the open beta phase is protected by NDA. About the Athens Digital Week event, there will be a Darkfall presentation and possibly announcements based on our progress by then. Any information on the ADW site concerning Darfall is currently inaccurate and a placeholder. We're not directly responsible for this content but we've asked for the information to be corrected. We'll keep you updated on any significant developments. Thanks for reading.
why is it that every place not controlled by this gaming company, which makes announcements in regards to this gaming company.... this gaming company comes out and says, "oh what they're saying isn't accurate."
so every site that has "official" information from the gaming company gets it wrong? and this latest one is intentionally wrong and just a placeholder?
wtf????
i'd love for a great game to come out; but with the crappy graphics on war and the tons of bugs it was released with... i now have doubts there will ever be another "good" mmo released. |

I don''t know much, but I do know this: With a golden heart comes a rebel fist |
I think it is absolutely hilarious at how once Tasos says something that supports the community and the game... everyone who disbelieves says: "WHOA WHOA whoa. Look at this sentence. See this word? Wow look at that word. That word means that everyone who likes DF is dumb and to think it is coming makes them incapable of doing anything than worshipping nothing......... WAIT OMG! Look here! This OBVIOUSLY means that DF is going to SUCK and that this test is a FAKE because of this one word and sentence. Learn to get some brains noobs and read in between the lines between the lines between those lines and the other lines and then the other lines. OMG AND LOOK AT THIS!!!!!: 3000000 years ago there was a book found called "Fall of darkness" ... This obviously relates to the game and predicted its epic failure and descending into the pits of interwebs" Seriously? You guys really do make me laugh sometimes because once you get proven | |
