Not true. Not only is it false, but it is a pretty disgusting lie.

I couldn't find any myth-buster websites clearly busting this lie but that is probably just because it is less than a few days old. I did find this article about it from Feb 08. Yes, 7 months before the debate. www.rediff.com/news/2008/feb/18look.htm

I also ran into a couple of sites trying like mad to turn the bracelet issue into a campaign killer. I was glad Obama did what he did. McCain played the fake, soft-spoken, misty-eyed American Soldier card all night and throughout his campaign. He used his bracelet as a stunt to make his point that the US should make sure this comes out a win no matter how many more lives are lost, just to make sure this solder died in a war we won. Obama pointed out that McCain doesn't hold the exclusive rights to the Military and dead soldiers in particular. He stated that instead the US should make sure that no more lives should be lost because of a poor management and poor leadership.

Their new anti-Obama slogan is: "I have a bracelet too". McCain not only played politics with a fallen soldier first, but he tried to speak for all of the fallen and tell us they all believe what he believes. Obama basically managed to point out the cheap stunt for what it was and also point out that the fallen and their families are Republican/Democratic/Independent and the only thing they would all agree on is that no ones else should die because the President doesn't know what the hell he is doing.

Oh, and they are also trying to sell the notion that Obama couldn't remember the soldier's name. I'll admit that for a few moments I thought that was the case too and cringed, but it was quickly obvious he was tripped up on the word mother and nothing as damaging as forgetting the name.

I don't like this bracelet crap, but if McCain insists on using it at every rally and debate I think it is only right Obama quickly slaps it aside, rights it, and moves on to important issues. Spreading this rumor is worst than making it up. Not only are you trying to deceive everyone else, but you are doing this after already being made a fool of yourself.

This makes me smile..

I knew the story was bullshit before even researching it, but the fact that you did is awesome.

OP, your attempts at slandering Obama fail. Is it that hard to do some basic research before posting a ridiculous item? Why don't you check the owner of that site's slogan? Here I'll save you the time: "The Leader in Documenting, Exposing, and Neutralizing Liberal Media Bias" Give me a credible source that supports this and I'll believe you.

This radio interview is from March 20,2008.  I am trying to listen to it right now to see if it is true of not, but haven't been able to get media player to play it yet.

This is kind of dissapoinitng... I mean the OP was all over me when i said this was an outright lie without making an effort to research it, and defended the fact that i did not have to research it, and now that it has been proven..OP just dissapears.

I haven't seen anything proven, I can't get the mediaplayer to play the file, you could follow the link I provided and play it. The "proof " that was presented to counter this was in Feb, 08. the radio broadcast in question here is March 20, 2008, after said "proof" so if anyone can actually get this media file to work and listen to it please do and let us know what was said in the actual Broadcast. Thanks

First of all, it's in writing, so it WOULD be libel, not slander. Secondly, READ my post -- I said IF true. The jury is still out on it -- ABC news is looking into it now.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/bracelet-wars.html

I saw the story, and I shared it with people. I then questioned people who trashed the source without taking care to follow up. I am still curious. I think Obama is a fake, a phoney and a fraud either way -- if it's not true, he still is that. He lied to the American people when he said he was change, when he is more of the same.

That makes him the biggest liar in this election.

We'll see what the truth is, and IF it turns out to be BS, I'll happily share it with you. It certainly seems the boy's father doesn't like it, no matter what his mother's feelings actually are,
