I don't know about other classes, but keep defense as an Engineer is the funnest time I've had since DAOC's Battlegrounds. I've recently created an engineer character in a High/High population server, got him up to 15 and decided to go defend my first keep on Saturday.

There was already what looked like 35+ enemy players beating on the dwarf keep door, which forced me to find out that there is a backdoor to the keep. Anyway, only about 6 defenders (including myself) were in the keep, so we all head up to the lord room and got onto the ledges. Another engineer and I set up our grenade turrets on ledge pointing towards the enterance stairs of the lord room. Only took about 10 minutes until the destruction broke the door down and began charging into the area only to meet constant bombardment from the grenade turrets, then we lobbed a few acid bombs at the group and watched their health plummeted downward as the healers scramble to get everyone healed. We then began to pick off the weakened enemy whos health was getting low from the acid. They were then wiped and didn't seem to have a chance to down the lord.
They came back again right after the wipe with an obvious plan to rush a few people up to the top floor to take us out. It ended up being a really big fight on the lord floor and the top floor, with us shooting a few of them off the keep ledge on top trying to stay alive and keep the lord alive (so we don't lose the keep). We ended up taking out the group they sent up at us, then they relized they were losing too many people to finish the lord so they all decided to run up to take us out in a suicide run. Their tank got in front of the ledge running up the ramp to the top floor while a few casters and a healer followed behind him and he then proceeds to corner himself, so we can't get by to attack the casters and healers that were behind him. The last fight ended being an incredibly long fight, me and the other engineer lacked enough ranged dps to take down the healer quickly, so we all focused on the tank because that is where all of dps had a chance to focus on. The tank drops, the rest of the enemy group dies and the keep is saved.

Now Sunday, I headed to the Troll Country keep because I had a clue that it was going to be attacked very soon from the indication of an outpost near it being captured. I get to the keep just in time to see Destruction setting up a ram, so I hurried inside quickly to only find out I was the only one inside the keep. As the 35 Destruction beat on the door, I had to call for help or join a group quickly. So, I go type in the channel and my luck, there doesn't seem to be a general or zone chat for the location I was at. I'm stuck without any call for help, so I had to atleast give it a chance and die defending. I set up the grenade turret at the same ledge and set it on aggressive, I head up to the top floor and hid. I peaked through the stairs going from the top floor to the lord room to see when I was going to make my move. The Destruction group quickly charges up the stairs and begins attacking the lord and his champions, I spot their healer and caster group and began lobbing non-stop acid bombs, fire and flash grenades at the group. Then I begin sniping off the healers, casters, and tanks in that order; until the last few retreated down the ramp to de-agro the lord room.  I made about 800 renown from their first run.
Next they come again, one would think they know about me on the top floor and that would be their sole objective. I'm just a level15 while they have 21s, so I'm clearly no match for 1on1 against any of them. They rush the lord room again and I start the same process very discretely because they have to know I'm up at the top floor. First few minutes of the battle is looking good as the previous, then I pissed off one of them. He ran through the lord and his champions up the ramp to my location, I quickly react and get to top floor ledge. Luckily the design of the keep allowed me to go outside the ledge and hide behind a pillar, so he hurries back down quickly as he is getting beat on by 4 more guards from the top level. I slowly begin the same process of harrassing the enemy with acid bombs again, but their hunters begin sending pets up take me out. It started to make things real difficult and I end up taking them out with only a 600 health left, as I lacked any health potions.. I was stuck at this health for the remainder of the fight. If they casted another pet and sent him up here, I'll definitely be a goner and the keep will be lost. So, I had an objective to take out their hunters quickly, thankfully they seemed to already be retreating off as soon as I spot the hunter casting his pet back to send up here I saw the lord guards de-agro them and kill the pet before it reached me. I hear some fighting going on outside the keep and I look over the ledge to only see that backup has came to help. As I was cheering I accidently fell off the keep and died.
So, I hurry back to the keep to make sure that they finished the rest of the enemy off.  In which no they haven't, the enemy built up what looked like 2 warbands in the bottom floor and were waiting for us to come back. They ended up outnumbering us and wiping us out (we were slightly a warband). I quickly join another warband that is trying to attack a keep nearby but are having trouble, got them to change their direction to the keep we were trying to stall the enemy from taking. Ended up being a huge battle, while they were trying to take the lord a big group of enemy stayed at the bottom floor to try to hold us off. We break through and stop them from killing the lord just in time. Made over 2100 renown from the fight and had a lot of fun.

@OP thanks for sharing, not playing Warhammer myself, but that's the sort of stories that make mmorpgs really cool and memorable!

QFT.

When real RvR gets going in this game it is utterly awesome and beats any other online experience I had both in intensity and complexity. I've been lucky enough in the past two weeks to have a few  evenings spent in situations similar to what OP described... and yet completely different.. if you know what I mean.

When (and if) they stop those dumb scenario mini-games from eating up world RvR the experiences like the one described above will become the norm.

Nice story :)

Engineer is a very intresting class to have in a MMO, lots of options... Anyways it sounded really fun, but those keeps sure could use a horn to blow in or a fire to light to signal to other players that the keep is under attack.

I stopped reading after something about 35+ enemies, only 6+ defenders and the enemies whiping.

ROFL. Yeah, I believe you. Did you count heads or did they do that for you?

I hate how much people lie about PvP when they're bad at it. The only way that first scenario played out the way you described is if your 6ish defenders were 10+ levels more than the highest person in the enemies' group.

Have fun digging yourself out of that whole.

If you''re going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you''re going to be locked up.

Yeah I always have fun taking or defending keeps. I wish they would get rid of scenarios as well. I still do them cuz right now Im trying to catch up with my guild. I had a Shadow Warrior but we have no witch hunters so I decided to make one. I love witch hunters they are sweet.

Playing Guild Wars. Waiting for Fallen Earth and SE new MMO.

People complaining about scenarios need to get in a guild focused on RvR 1st and scenarios/PQs second. These battles happen all the time but in order to start one you have to be proactive and not passive like 80% of most random players.

Find a RvR focused guild with a solid number of members and have fun or stay and sit on the sidelines, you choice.

well.. wether you believe him or not.. I seen it myself happen more than once. where 6-10 defenders faught off 2 warbands

levels aside. the defenders have advantages.

1- a door you can go in an out of instantly. come out.. wack a few people go back in and heal up.. no delay. as long as they can click on the door...

2- the keeps defenses (weaponry) is very strong.

3- the high ground

4- The lords room. 8 defenders get 2 champions and 1 hero class on thier side.. and hero hits as hard as 5 players at once. if the defensers target the right healers and use the knock backs as they were talking about to launch them off the wall . they can EASILY hold that room.
