Things i hate about forums.. only one thing.. If you don't agree with someone you are either a fanboi or a troll. There just can't be another opinion if it doesn't match yours. Community... probably only that it used to be a lot better in the days of UO and EQ1... ya my full loot open pvp game had a better community than most anything I can log into today.. and I didn't even like EQ but I had a lot of friends there. |

The Fanbois. "Fanboi" being the correct spelling BTW ;-P. I don't mind genuine fans of the game. Because you can be a fan and still be able to see fault (as you said). What do they hope to gain? As gamers, we should be trying to encourage Devs to make good games and supporting those that do. Sadly though, the Fanbois tell every Dev that their game is "perfect" from conception and drown out those with genuine and valid concerns. Then when the game goes live, and those concerns are realized the Fanbois drop the whole thing and move on to the next title.
They are the bane of my forum existence. They turn every legitimate gripe inte a flame war, all while /agreeing with each other and grandstanding. Honestly I rarely ever see "trolls", I usually see people who have a concern and either make it known to get feedback or give information. Negative posts are extremely useful in game development and only the most narcissistic dev would reward the sycophantic, often belligerent posts of these vermin by actually making them mods. Its that type of mindset that brought Failcom to its knees. They and their fanboi lapdogs deserve the same miserable fate. Extinction.

Reality? What is that? Where can I download it? |
The general negativity on the forums. Hence I rarely look or post in them. I just go and enjoy the game I am playing. |

Don''t Panic!!!! |
There are a few things I don't care for that have evolved over the last few years... The extreme polarization of opinion. If you write something positive about a game, you are a "blind fanboi". If you write something negative, you are a "hater or troll". It gets pretty hard to actually discuss anything about any game without degenerating into a mud slinging match. The Drama Queens. Yes, most MMO's have had a bad launch, shame on them but really, don't pre-order and do some frickin research before you buy a game. Another thing, SWG vets...get over it. Its tiresome, its not clever, entertaining, informative or even interesting to read at this point. Five years of your pissing and moaning over a video game. "WoW vs" or "WoW killer" threads....just...stop...it. The game is a phenomena just leave it at that. Things will change in due time. That's just me though, I know many enjoy that sort of thing.

Elitism. I don't like it when people act like the people in their playstyle are the select few most mature and intelligent. I don't like it when PvP advocates do it. I don't like it when hardcore grinders do it. I don't even like it when sandboxers or Rpers do it, even though I think both of those are good things. You're only hurting yourself when you say that your playstyle makes you special or superior. You're not likely to get the games you want unless you're willing to reach out to new people, and convince them they should join you, or at least that you can cooexist. You're not likely to achieve that by going around calling them carebears and noobs, and telling them they're too stupid and immature to understand how awesome your playstyle is. |

1. The lack of ability to have a regular discussion without it devolving, usually within the first page, into being called a fanboi, troll, hater, shill etc. by both extreme ends of the MMO. 3. When people throw out unsubstantiated rumor or reports they see on the internet as "facts", who never take the time themselves to research whether its true or not, yet fight tooth and nail when those reports/rumors are questioned or proven wrong. 4. Attempts by "haters" and "fanbois" when an argument is going south for them to resort to personal attacks on the person they were arguing with. 5. Drama Queens that bemoan every update/hotfix/expansion/change as the "death' of the game and drone on for days/weeks/years in virtual, self-inflicted purgatory to the rest of the community. They become a nusiance to the board(s) and in the process they end up committing alot of the actions in 1-4 in the extreme in attempts to validate their actions. 6. Falsely believing that privately owned forums are protected as free speech under the US Constitution and any moderation, deletions of posts or banning of individuals are illegal. |
