The whole thing turned absolutely rediculous Umbral so I bow out of this whole thing here.   You can form all of the personal views about me, my ability to analise/appreciate art, my personal philosophies, my basic incompetence that you want to...

You are not punishing anyone here musicman, sorry.

I never said  Lotro was far worse graphically than GuildWars in an overall aspect.

Your intellectual abilities are not in question, only arguments and counter arguments expressed here.

Yes, if you compare with some pretty nice landscapes we find in lotro, some expressive art related to Tolkien´s work and the standart for avatars these days, there are a couple of issues.

I have no personal views about you, only about the point of view and arguments expressed here, this is not a personal discussion for me, but unfortunately it is for you, so lets finish it here.

Complete horsecrap, I played bother too and AoC has great graphics but completely useless because of the lag and stability issues. AoC terrain sucked in comparison to LOTRO which is much more realisticand vastly superiour in size. I felt clastrophbic in many of AoC zones.

It really doesn't matter now anyways, AoC is done, stick a fork in that clusterf#$k.

If Turbine had put as much love into character models and armor as they did the terrain, I might would agree with the orginal OP.

I love LOTRO's terrain. Its wide and open, its hilly in some area, different elevations done in a realistic manner.

Character models are horrid. The posture the models have make me thing they are in the beginning stages of osteoporosis. The faces are pretty lifeless and for someone who loves the terrain, the character models was a complete turn off. AOC's models use far more polygons, and just over all look better. It also runs good on my system so I have no issues on that end.

Armor, I hate to even get started on armor. LOTRO armor is just terrible. There is nothing I've seen that stands out and makes you want to go raid for it. I'm not big into raiding myself, but even wow came out with aesthetically pleasing armor that made you say, I have to have that. In LOTR it doesn't matter if your level 30 or 50, its all bland and pretty boring.

AOC, armor while not alot of it yet, what they do have stands out.  I'm talking just normal armor, I haven't seen any raid stuff yet. But I've seen ring mail that shines and looks like ring mail which makes it more impressive.

I to wish Turbine would go back and add models with a higher polygon count that look anatomically correct. It could be like with EQ2 and you can choose to see the new models or turn them off if you can't run them. I didn't understand why every outfit cover the female form from ankle to neck, (I'm female) until you see their under clothing. The legs, knees, all look terrible and I can see why they wish to keep them covered.

So going back to the original OP, Yes if your talking Terrain, LOTR looks amazing, its just to bad they didn't extend the love over into models and armor.

Umbral -- ironically enough you're correct I misread your first post in the beginning -- I will concede to that.  I'd actually combined your post with another post inadvertently when I first read it somehow -- long story,

however,

I am going to ask you to do what you told me to do -- reread your own posts rationally -- a number of times you stated things like -- *I realise you can't understand such and such* and actually stated something along the lines of *you realise I"M not capable of a rational discussion etc etc*.   Common sense would indicate if you question someone's abilities to enter in to the very discussion you're having they will take it personally -- would it not?

There are many ways to express a point without making personal statements about someone else.

I think Guild Wars has the best art direction and graphics.  Gameplay's not so good but the graphics have a nice mixture of stylized looks and pretty lighting effects.

LOTR looks a little bland.  Out of all the big MMOs it most closely resembles a LARP convention.

AOC uses all of the lastest effects but the loading screens and overall performance detract from the gameplay.

"Eye for an Eye"

I'm glad I'm playing a game, if I want real life. I go outside.

Guild Wars is an completely instanced game world, of course you can have more graphical power. Same goes for conan, the game world highly subdivided into instances, which leaves game developers a lot more room to pack in all the add bells and whistles of an aethesticly pleasing (and boring) game world.

Lord of the Rings online is the only game released since Lineage 2 , to use instancing as an additive , instead of the basis for an entire game world, and yet here we go ,almost 2 years after the fucking game is release we have the same sucking people saying the same sucking suite over and over again. Get over it, LotrO is a success, the game looks great, playing like a polished game and has a dedicated core following.

The only other game that has the "right " to say we did something truly unique in game world design , is Vanguard. Like it or not VG is the one of the greatest looking game worlds ever produced. Nothing anyone can do or say can change that fact. THough the entire games mechanics in character comstumization just didn't hhit the mark, VG's "game world" does.

LotrO has great graphics, and I agree they are a understatement to the current piles that got released last year and this year.

If youc an't get over it and move on, you are truly a loser . if we are now a loud to call people fanboy's it is appropiate we can all others losers, if it is not appropiate then mod the forums.

Yet, there are so many who just cannot find this fun that the dedicated 150k find in LOTRO.

A lot has to do with the bland character animations and visuals.

We also are not discussing popularity but visual quality.

Time and again the character models fail to deliver in LOTRO is all, at least for myself and so many others in this thread it seems.

While the graphics were nice to look at I never felt a part of the world in LoTRO...maybe alot of that has to do with the animations and character models but I just never felt quite right there.
