I mean, why can't they just make their own game and be happy. The new WOTLK expansion is stealing even MORE ideas from Warhammer. Not like they didn't do enough when blizzard basically copied the whole concept and artwork of Warhammer. But now they're taking more of the great ideas of Mythic.
In WOTLK, you will be able to queue to BG's anywhere. You will be able to earn EXP from PVP and obtain random gear drops from PVP. They're adding a whole zone just for PVP as well as siege weapons.
The list goes on of what they're 'stealing' from WAR and what they've already stolen from the Warhammer Ip and other games.
When will they make their "own" game? When I look at WoW, I just see a bunch of other great concepts smashed into one. It's like Runescape but in third person.

And WAR is totally original? I mean Mythic didn't look at WOW and take all the best parts from that game and attempt to build upon them? lol. Every great game or object in the world has copied something else, it's part of evolving. All the changed Blizzard are making will make WOW a better game so why not do it? I mean the ideas they're putting into the game wern't invented by WAR. Also look at Warhammer and Warcraft concept art and you'll see that it's very different and so is the lore, just because they took inspiration from Warhammer doesn't make it a bad thing :\ WAR took fron dnd and Lotr which then took from myths and shit. |

"If you''re not for yourself, who will be? If you''re always for yourself, who are you?" |
But it works that's why game companies have been doing it way before MMO's ever came about. That's why there are now a slew of games that use the same ideas pioneered by rockstar games and the GTA franchise, becaues it sells. You could jump completely out of the video game market and see it in any market in the capitalist system. People are constanly thinking, " How can I take this and make it better. |

Because they know that execution trumps ideas. While other companies tout how "novel" and "innovative" they are, Blizzard keeps turning out games that run well, look good and are fun to play.

These measurew il lkeep wow on top for a good while yet - it is just that more experienced players that want those aspects will go get them in a game where they mean something and it isnt all about me me me me me and keeping 12 year olds happy.

The achiever-oriented dikuMUD formula is what it is. Blizzard was never going to change it, they just polished it up to a spit shine. That's what they do - they let other companies take the innovation risks then come in and make a far more solid, polished product. And the consumers win both ways. Yes their games are shallow (StarCraft hugely aside), but they work and they are entertaining. Rather than play the repetitive grind, just enjoy it for what it is then quit until the next thing comes along.

Quote from Blizzard's J Allen Brack, senior producer of WotLK http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=190535 Actually it wasn't WoW. I know it is hard for you WoW fanboys to realize that the PC game industry didn't begin with World of Warcraft. But Blizzard's Warcraft Orcs and Humans was supposed to be a Warhammer game. For what ever reason they either never actually asked to use GW's IP or they were denied but in either case Blizzard went ahead and made Warcraft 1 anyways. Even though it was heavily based on Warhammer. Just like Starcraft is heavily based on Warhammer 40K. Sure Fanboys of WoW and Blizzard in general might try to deny it but honestly any unbiased individual with no previous knowledge would assume that Warhammer Table Top and Warcraft PC games were an identical Intellectual Property. Heck even a lot of the place names are names from the Warhammer world. Orcs before Warhammer were depicted as grey monsters. Warhammer made them green. Huh what color are they in Warcraft? Let's see Blood Elves in WoW equal Dark Elves in Warhammer lore even the back story of how they were corrupted by the power is extremely similar to Warhammers lore on Dark Elves. |
