Play Warlock if you like caster classes. In PVP warlocks are one of the best classes, they deal über high damage, have nasty curses and have good sue of fear and they heave cool pets.  If you like melee dps and play Rogue. In pvp rogues kill quickly because of stun, daze and high dps.

both of those classes are fun to play, maybe if you like pvp make sure you choose a pvp server, as for guild recruiting that will depend on the server you join.

as the old wow is now so cheap £7.99 in uk might be a idea to buy that and try at least you get access to all features and can chat and maybe find a nice guild saves playing the trail which has so many features turned off also you get 30 days free play if you like it then upgrade to burning crusade and wrath of the lich king

Perhaps - as a newbie - I would go with a class where you switch roles completely.

For instance a druid or paladin: they can be pure tanks -pure healers - pure dps class (or a priest very hard dps and the best healers).

In choosing such a class you have diffferent options if the gameplay of a tank or a dps or a healer doesn't suit you. Or like you said: a shaman can be and a good dps and a good healer.

In fact these classes are so easy to respec these days, it's far more fun to play in the long run. Cost of respeccing your talents is maximum 50 Gold (that's 4 daily quests). So a lot of players change every week their specs.

Regarding spec and respeccing - Blizzard had said that they're going to implement Dual Spec: allowing you to have 2 sets of Talent Build that you can switch.

First class, and like pvp?

I'd say druid.

They aren't as hot as they used to be, but by playing a druid you get to try 3 different game mechanics.  The Warrior rage mechanic is use in bear form (Tank), the Rogue energy bar mechanic is used in Cat form (DPS), and in caster form you get the mana bar.

If you dont find the druid to your liking at least you'll know which style you preferred and can pick a new class from there.
