 Wise ones, please help.

I am wondering if my rig will run WAR.  I have looked at the hardware reqs already and now seek your sagely advice.

First their reqs:

For Windows XP:

2.5 GHz P4 (single core) processor or equivalent
1 Gigabyte RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 15 GB of hard drive space

Supported Video Cards:

ATI Radeon(TM) series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900
3650, 3850, 3870
4850, 4870
NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6600, 6800
7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9400, 9500, 9600, 9800
GTX 260, GTX 280
Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
GMA X4500

So here is my rig

Windows XP AMD Athlon 3200+ 180g Hard Drive with plenty of space left...2 Gig RAM...Nvidia Geforce 5500FX 256 mb AGP card.  No PCI-E slot.

So my card is not listed but it has a lot of memory and I have more RAM.

I am willing to have so-so to middle level performance...but am NOT willing to A) get a new video card, B) get new motherboard and/or processor, C) get a new computer.

Do I risk the $50 bucks?

I await your infinite wisdom boys and girls!

Only the dead have seen the end of war- Plato

that card wont be able to handle WAR, even on the lowest settings.

If your card isn't listed, I wouldn't do it.   I play on an Athlon 3500 with an X700 card, 2 gigs Ram - so my rig is nothing special at all.   Game runs fine for me, some lag when there are massive RvR battles but still playable.  I'm probably at the low end of the needed specs and you being below me.......I wouldn't do it.

I think you should cough up $500-600 and build a new rig though (you can really make something decent even that cheap, buy a barebones and add what you need - not like you need a new monitor what can be about as expensive as a whole new PC these days).  Unless you want to just be able to play WoW forever when it comes to MMOs :)   I'm trying to hold off until next year sometime for my upgrade, since WAR is working fine on my machine.

I'm using an unlisted card with 256 megs of v-RAM, and it works OK.  FX 5500as well  if I remember right. I have to run on low settings, but my framerates are OK in any situation outside of a big RvR battle.  Even scenarios with mutiple full groups on each side are OK for me.

Not that I would say I'm delighted with my overall performance ;-)  Just saying, it runs...and I'm not lagging out in scenarios or having to cut my draw distance down to where I'm blind.  I have to say I'm fairly impressed with the WAR engine overall, it scales down better than I expected it to.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

theres something wrong with WARS code.  i can run AOC with 70-80 fps on high.  but when i get into war iam lucky to get 50-60 on high.. and this game doesnt even have AA or any of that fps sucking goodness.

Back on topic.. you should beable to run it but don't expect to be running the game smooth at all moments.. RvR could get laggy and iam sure scenarios will get laggy until you load everything.  But pve and such should be fine.

I have a athlon 3200 xp 2.5 gigs (3 but my mobo assigns it to rescources, stupid mobo).  Tier 1 is fine but after that I feel how old my rig is. Still playable but WAR seems to be CPU intensive instead of GPU like other games.

Also what kinda of ram. If its less than 400 ddr then i wouldnt bother.

Sorry, but with this comp you don't have a chance for open rvr in WAR, and that's were most fun is.

When a Kender says "oops!"; its already too late.

Make WAR, not ArenaCraft!

Other than the video card, your system isn't far off from one of my friends.

Assuming you only have basic Windows XP, which is a 32bit OS, you wil only be able to use up to 3.2gig of RAM.  This includes video card RAM.  Thus, you have 2.2gig right now (2gig system + 256mb video).  You only have room for another gig, of course, this is providing that your mobo can go that high.

If you turn everything off, you might be able to play.  WAR frequenlty uses 1.7gig of system RAM.  Basically, you won't be able to run alot of the stuff in the background, nor use all the "pretty stuff" in WAR.

If finances allow, you can build a decent system for less than 600$.  There is a link on the WHA forums.  I'm going to assume that because you're posting here, that you aren't quite savvy enough to build your own?  If you have a friend that can, Newegg.com is a great place to get components to build a new system.

I built the system listed in my sig for 550$ US.  Since you already have a computer, you can save by not purchasing a new; mouse, keyboard, and monitor.  You can also save, if you want, by not purchasing a tower or some other components.  About the only thing you might not be able to ignore is the OS.  Since XP only sees and uses up to 3.2gig, you'll need a 64bit OS, whether it be Vista or XP.  You can get the system buildiers version from Newegg for 99$.  That just means though, Microsoft won't give you support if you have problems.
