Either the PvP is entertaining on its own or it isn't.

People who feel the need to punish their enemies by banishing them back to grind xp, money or items have the wrong set of priorities in a PvP game.  The death penalty doesn't make the actual experience of combat any better, it just adds a time sink to the loser and a small sense of risk.  For those that simply must have the thrill of "gambling" their time and in game money on the outcome of a PvP match I guess so, but that doesn't make the combat itself any more or less intense.  I have a hard time believing people get bored of combat without some harsh risk and think they just like the grief aspect more.  After all the combat didn't change did it?

What is missing is purpose to the overall scope of PvP battles.  Fighting over keeps and battlefield objectives that really don't make a difference leaves a very bland and shallow experience.  There should never be the time in RvR when you have to ask yourself, "why am I fighting" and then have to make a choice to stay simply because you like the combat or leave, because there really isn't anything worth fighting over.

On a smaller scale with little to no death penalty and the "get right back in there and fight" mechanics of Warhammer, it really lends itself to endless zerging between opposing sides.  Unless you can kill all of your enemies and take your objective before they respawn and counter attack, it just ends up being a war of attrition.  Where the attrition is who has more people leave due to having their fill of combat or just get tired of the endless respawning to attack.  That is really the only reason I can think of that justifies some sort of death penalty.

Yes, WAR is a Carebear game. Big whoop-de-friggin-doo. It's also a FUN game, at least for me, and that's all that matters.

There's Shadowbane, there's EVE, there may be Darkfall. Enjoy.

WAR is what it is, and isn't likely to change -- if anything, it looks like patches will make getting back into the fight even faster, no more tedious runs across half the zone to get back to the keep. So posting here about WAR is "carebear" is about as useful as going to the Microsoft boards and asking when they're going to open-source Windows.

I have to agree with this guy. Yes I dont like War, yes its carebear. Im the type of person who plays his games on hard-mode and War is ez mode.

But who said pvp ONLY ment carebear pvp like in War??

I like that I have th echoice and the option, that would be like every game out there having ONLY insane mode
