Im a bama fan, but live in Florida. You can probably understand how pissed off they must be that anyone other than their beloved gators are leading the SEC. at any rate, the discussion came up as to why Texas Tech isnt #1 instead of bama since bama went into OT against LSU, a team Texas Tech pretty much spanked. well, ive gone through the points scored by each as well as the teams each team has played. In my overly biased opinion, its pretty clear why they hold the #1 spot. However, like I said thats a biased opinion. Im really wondering what other folks might think about this. |

Your second paragragh seems to indicate that Texas Tech played LSU this season. They have not. But you may have been referring to Tech spanking Okla St last Saturday, which they did. Texas Tech is looking almost unstoppable to me right now. To come back and beat a top ten team the way they did a week after an emotional win over Texas was very impressive. And the combination of Harrell and Crabtree is one of the best air shows I have ever seen in college football. So my opinion is they are the best team in the country right now. But let's not forget, they still have to travel to Oklahoma and play an excellent Sooners team. Texas and Okla St were both home victories. But who is ranked #1 and #2 between Alabama and Texas Tech is insignificant. They are both undefeated and if they finish the season that way, they are in. Even if Tech finsihes the season ranked #2 behind 'Bama, I wouldn't be surprised if they would be favored in the BCS Championship game by virtue of coming out of a slightly tougher conference. Frankly, I think I would rather be the underdog. As a sidenote, the SEC Championship game is already set. Florida vs Alabama. 'Bama is going to have their hands full in that game, and if the Gators win, they could very well go to the BCS Championship themselves. |

Texas Tech should be ranked #1, but since this is a first for them.. people hold it against them. I hope Texas Tech goes all the way!! They deserve it! |

C'mon, it's all Alabama's got. You can't actually think that this redneck state would expect to be #1 at anything that had to do with anything important would you? So, they sit around and convince themselves that their football team is making people care and turning heads in other parts of the nation. It definitely isn't their academics causing a second glance, that's for sure. lol. |

Florida will get their shot at Bama. With PSU's loss, it's fairly certain that the SEC champ will play the Big 12 champ for the national title. The only question is who will represent the Big 12 South. We will have a vital piece to that puzzle Saturday (22nd). If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech, there will be a lot of in-fighting, considering:
We go through this in the SEC about every other season. It leaves many questions unanswered and lots of people lobbying for a playoff. In the end, it'll come down to style points, margin of victory, and key stats. Also, teams usually get more credit than they should for beating ranked teams early in the season. Alabama beat a #9 ranked Clemson (which has gone on to lose 4 more games). So, Bama's win over Clemson shouldn't really count for as much now as it did the first week. If you discount the win over Clemson, Bama has only beaten 2 other top 20 teams, and struggled against a couple of unranked teams. So, I'd put Bama at number 2 under Texas Tech (with more quality wins).
My top 5 would be:
My money is on Florida playing Texas Tech for the championship. |

Heres what I think. First off I don't think Tech can beat OU at home. They went into overtime with Nebraska in lubbock, we scored 35 points in the first quarter. With A&M both of us played at college station yet A&M was never close to us. I think OU will beat Tech n problem. Now this brings us to the BCS I think the new rankings could fall Bama, OU, Texas, Flordia, Tech. If bama slips up and takes a loss to say Auburn then a Gator win over them in the SEC champ game won't mean as much and could very well just knock them out of the BCS natl champ game. Still even if Flordia beats a unbeaten bama OU and Texas could still grab the title game. Either way I think OU will be taking the Big 12 spot and there are a number of ways Texas OR Tech could take the other. |
