yep it is a business, however the market they sell to is not the one you think they should.

The point of eve is a single server centered around PvP in order to keep an in game economy flowing.

The voice of reason

The focus of that MMO is on questing and working together against NPC's. If you switch EVE to that it's not EVE, it would also be impossible and would require a completely new game. That's like saying "I bought an F430 but I don't exactly like it, now if I can get Ferrari to change it so that it looks, drives, sounds and behaves like a Porshe THEN I'll like my Ferrari".

Thing is, if you don't like your Ferrari don't try and get it changed to a Porshe, BUY a Porshe and leave the Ferrari to the Ferrari fans. Not every company is best off trying to cater for every customer, niche marketing and niche product have their place and can be very profitable.

Waiting for SW:TOR / Playing WAR

I dont like EvE for only one reason - controls (aka gameplay mechanics).. I tried hard to love it - but faild..

EvE is not bad game.. Its fun, and realy HUGE.. very good content, constantly upgraded... They will add walking on sations too.. Be sure to try trial account, but "think" before buying it...

I hate "clicking" in the space... Thats why I have high hopes for Jumpgate Evolution - Freelancer style of combats...

The voice of reason

Yeah, that I can understand. It's more Homeworld than a spacefighter sim, while I had the same reservation years ago I do think that it's for the better. It's NOT a spacesim and while I would love a full-on simulation (just as I'm still hoping for a proper Mechwarrior SIM MMO, so no ADHD stuff but trying to to it properly) I think it would means losing a lot of focus on other things than just flying around, the stuff that makes EVE into what it is.

To those who wanted to know what happened, it's pretty simple. A certain pilot, name being witheld because I don't care if he lives or dies, was doing a lot of can flippin. Not just to me, but pretty much anyone in the system.

This person would just fly around in his frigate, looking for new players who just might be using can's to temporarily store ore and steal it. Of course the first time he did this, I ignored him, cause I didn't have the means to fight. Most new players in mining ships have no combat skills.

Eventually, after a weeks worth of mining, I grew tired of this guy and his annoying attempts to provoke. Needless to say, I almost blew up his little frigate, then took the ore back that he stole. Ya, he came back in his big bad ship and blew me up after scrambling me.

Most of you are probably right about just ignoring him, but when someone plays a game and does nothing but annoy you, day after day, it really gets old. No, this does not happen in other games because its not hard to pack up and move somewhere else. Granted, I could just leave my stuff behind, but then I'll have crap all over the universe while trying to dodge Mr. Noobkiller.

I don't care that I lost my ship, I can mine the cost back in an hour. It's that this guy is relentless and does nothing else. I'm sure its absolutely normal in Eve, since a lot of you folks have titled me a Drama Queen. However, from a new players prespective, your attitude is the exact reason players do leave. Eve is for PvP, I understand that, but with no area to get your feet wet, NEW PLAYERS may learn all to quickly just how harsh the game is and quit before they've even started.

I got what I deserved, cause I attacked some guy with no life. I'm just trying to let new players, like myself, know what exactly goes on in Eve. I can't say it happens to everyone but the guy that was bothering me was the same guy that made me quit 2 years ago. Congrats to him and his noob destroying abilities, but thats just a deterant to Eve getting any new subscriptions, oh well.

so mister whiner. i am bored cos its patch day so i tell you hwo you could pwn that guy. FIrst fit a heavy energy neutraliser. 24km range same as t2 warp disru, and frig is out of cap and no MWD for him. 2 use light drones. 4fit some tank. but that is obvious, and fopr truth you dont need a tank tokill single frig. but using poit 1 and 2 you would have the upper hand and have a cool Killmail to boast around. but you didnt think, and you died to a frig. it hurts huh? well as a miner one tip. when mining open market and start reading modules descriptions, goog way to pass time, and maybe you can learn something? anyway fly (un)safe !

For reference... There is no reason to believe that the op's killmail is the one I posted.

If you tried to read between the lines I was actually saying. You got it all wrong please read the manual.

If I have to explain that?

There are so much things to read, things to do. Things to learn about this game. No, you are not the imba pilot jsut because you can fly a battleship. And yes this games promotes all types of behaviour.

It is your choice to whine or learn. Make it.

I'm so broke.
I can't even pay attention.

Oh what the heck, patch day so I'll bite.

Sorry that you got hit by an ore thief. My issue with your post is the context. Instead of coming here and asking, "hey, what would you guys recommend" you chose to just use the "game sux" tactic. This might not be your game, that's OK. If your not getting entertainment with it your wasting your time. A note to all new players, GET THE TRIAL. I recommended that for EVERY MMO, not exclusive to EVE. Trying a product before you buy it, always a good course of action.

I don't know if you care but here are some tips from a new solo miner (playing for 3 months) for protecting your can (as in JetCan, lol) in HiSec:

1. GET OUT! You’re a new player and your mining with JetCans get the heck out of high traffic areas. This should help: http://www.fluidorbit.co.uk/ locate areas of interest. Get into a ship and scout out a new home. Remember to scout, if your new home starts to get crowded after a while, find another. I have three mining outposts I move between. Less then 6 people typically and glorious fields of Kernite!
2. LOCAL IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! Your mining, there is no reason to NOT watch local and check everyone that is coming into the system. If you took advice 1. it will be easier to watch. If someone looks suspicious, stop mining and start hauling to reduce your risk. If they manage to get a little bit of ore, don't worry about it. Yelling at them in local or convo is only going to paint a large target on your back. Now that your watching Local chat, if he/she enters the system you know to pack it up.

Follow those two very simple rules and you will drastically cut down on ore theft. I have had my can flipped 1 time in 3 months, I mine daily. I bought a 1/2 dozen Giant Secure Containers but I have no reason to use them in HiSec, starting to establish a 4th outpost in LowSec where I will use them.

Like I said above, I take zero issue with someone who can not enjoy this game. I do take issue when someone who can't simply ask for advice and instead turns on this "game sux" attitude. Good luck.
