Tried numerous times, but never got code in the mail. Checked spam filters, etc. It will not allow the use of 2nd email address entered...I assume they must log IP address of requesters.

I assume FFXI is like other MMO's that are withdrawing the free trials because of the abuse by the spammers. I can understand this, but I will not buy the game without trying first.

I can download it just fine. Link sends you to File Planet and the download / patch works. But, on file planet, it tells you to click link to get your reg key which sends you back to FFx site...which ask for your email address. It SAYS it sends it...but it does not. Tied numerous times. It will not allow you to try a second email address which makes me think it monitors IP's.

As i said in OP, I have heard MMO's are shying away from trial accounts due to spam abuse. Same thing happen with DDO. Their website said it offered trial accounts...but if you went through procedure to get one, you found you could not. Then I found burried on a forum post a statement by Turbine saying due to spammers, it was halted.

The pain of making a play online account and actually get in the game should be enough spammer deterrent.

They just started this so highly unlikely they would stop it.  It could be they are having issues.  if you cannot get a key still, try contacting them through the website.

EVE - Sharvala
FFXI - Shazamalicious
Guild Wars - Xavier Lucifer & Charlize the Necro

A game like FFXI though.  14 days is not enough to fall in love with it usually. lol

I didn't get addicted till like a month or two into it, and the addiction only got worse.

Taking a huge break from it currently after 6 years of playing.  Might quit since I been playing it far too long.

My character shall rest in peace with me, no tainted hand of a noob/gil farmer shall ever lay a finger on it.

I dunno I just became addicted to it recently and I have only played for a week so far. The thing is I have been very critical of this game in the past and would not even give it afew levels of a chance. Now I have given it a chance because I yearned for a true MMO with depth and consequences once again like in the old EQ days. Just today as I was exploring with some friends I made in game, I had that feeling of excitement and joy I only had in the earlier days of EQ. No MMO since then has given me that feeling again, but now I think I may have found a keeper and a new MMO home.

First, welcome back to the game.  Glad to see people giving this game a chance that it rightly deserves.  It's not for everyone but I think that the challenges faced in this game can really appeal to a lot of people if they just gave it half a chance.

Second, It's also great that you found other people who you can go exploring with.  As much as I do in game now with end game stuff and farming and such, my greatest memories are of those with other noob players who didn't know a crag from a hole in the ground if it smacked them in the face and finding places we could go to, to kill things for exp just as 3 people with no clue doing whatever we thought we could.  Many times we bit off more than we could chew but it made for great stories that
