I see threads where troops are thanked for 'keeping us safe' and all the 'great work' and 'bravery' they show.

I remember saying I wouldn't go to Iraq and people laughed and called me a pussy...

Well, I'd rather go to jail or get a death penalty, than fight a war I don't believe in.

Seeing that the Iraq war was a shot in the blind, to attempt some kind of retaliation, to show the US voters and the world that the Bush administration are men-of-action... unfortunately not of-brains.

Basically the troops are there because they didn't think about what they went into. They willingly accepted to trust their leadership without questioning.

They are there to save the dumbest president the western world have seen.

And with support they will stay longer. There is just no way I can support troops and actions like that.

They say soldiers are so brave to go and 'keep people safe', willing to sacrifice their lives...

The BRAVE thing to do would be to say 'No, I'm not parttaking in this anymore. I'm suppose to defend my country, but I'm on foregn soil. What's going on, I'm not fighting this pointless war for you.'

Foreign soldiers have a safe home to return to. While the Iraq people have nowhere to go. Where do you think morale is? With the ones that can pull back, or the ones with nothing to lose?

The foreign troops are NOT making the world a safer place, they make it more unsafe. They are tools for people that like to play around with your safety.

And give terrorists a reason to strike back, more united and convinced than before.

The US is less safe because of what they did in Iraq. This will totally backfire.

Over 97.000 people have been killed now in Iraq since the invasion. Do they even realise how much hate and despair this is causing.

Almost every person in Iraq either knows someone who got killed or has a relative who got killed by the US invasion.

Why would they not join a force to help kill US soldiers, when their brothers and sisters have been killed like dogs by bombings.

The US military is a disgrace to democracy and civil rights.

''Life is what you make of it, not what others make of yours.''

Soldiers aren't allowed to question the government and tell them to shove it up their ass because they don't want to fight, its what you get when you sign up, a country can't function properly if its military consists of people with their own agenda.

But besides that I do agree with you that the war is a sham.

The military is not the Boy Scouts. If you disobey a direct order from your superiors, even if you have a damn good reason for it, you will soon be wishing you were "just" facing a trial for rape and murder.

The current situation is not the government's fault either, except in the sense that they failed to understand tribal warfare mentality. The rift between the Sunnis and Shi'ites is best compared to the Catholic and Protestant churches when they were first splitting apart. The original conflict was over leadership, a new Caliph was needed, but there were two candidates for the job. Previously, the Caliph had always been a direct descendant of their prophet Muhammed. One group favored such a descendant, who happened to be less than qualified for the position, the other group favored someone else not of the bloodline, who was exceptionally qualified. As usual with religious disputes, it soon turned to blood, and the two groups have been fighting off and on ever since.

Fast forward a couple centuries. Hussein is part of a Sunni minority controlling a Shia majority through brutal force. We step in for a variety of reasons, including of course the information about WMDs (not false info, just misleading*) and eliminate the established government. The Shia rejoice at our actions for being freed from the Sunnis. Shortly thereafter, they take advantage of the change in leadership to embark on a campaign of genocide to wipe out the remaining Sunnis. We step in yet again and tell them they cannot do that. We have been fighting the people we freed ever since.

*Hussein confessed to maintaining WMD weapons factories for the sole purpose of making his neighbors believe they would be hit by one if they attempted to invade. Their existance and Hussein's refusal to come clean was the primary reason for the invasion. That had to be the most frustrating search in all of history. "Hmm, I've got a ballistics missile here capable of delivering a chem/bio WMD payload. Oh! right next to it are chemicals used to make various nerve toxins usable for a chemical WMD payload. Nerve toxins Hussein is famous for testing on his own people in fact." Had he given the order, Hussein could have had a WMD missile prepped for launch in approximately a half hour. But, since the components were not put together at the time we found them, we were forced to report no actual WMDs.

Not playing MMOs, and hating every minute of it.

No offence, but to OP..  you don't know what you're talking about.

I live in a military town full of Iraq vets.  YOU don't know what your talking about. period.

Never heard one vet say they didn't believe in the mission 100%.

Oh i'm sure ABC and CNN trotted out some, but that's just propaganda leftist attempt to smear.

Why did 67% of the military vote for McCain ?  hmm?  Why?
