If doctors aren't slaves, why do we think we have a RIGHT to their work and output?

Why does a person have a right to another person's intellectual vigor and knowledge only when it comes to medicine?

I posit that it is an immoral idea.

Doctors took the Hippocratic Oath.

And they make an average salary of $138k-$201k, depending on experience.

If they wanted to be greedy blood suckers, they should have been divorce lawyers.

What would stop doctors from working outside of a national health plan if they choose? 

Could say the same for Firefighters, police, paramedics, emergency workers.

You should probably ask a slave this question.....If you want an honest answer.

I guess what your implying is that freedom and wealth are the reasons people become Doctors.

I think the average salary is 430,000 a year.  And they talk about how hard they work during residency, though the residency where they work hard is only one-forth of the year.  The other part of residence where they like never work is psychiatry.

They are guaranteed a very high-level paying job after med school, and they get paid while in med school.

Give me a break.

Doctors have the best gig in America, by far, and the AMA will NOT allow the founding of more medical schools to ensure American-born doctors are paid very well.  It is probably why your doctor is imported from India or elsewhere.  It is common for that because of the forced short supply of doctors.

Doctors? Quite the leap to make considering bus drivers and waste managers.

First off they took that oath that protected them as well.

Second off like others said, WHEN WERE DOCTORS SUPPOSED TO BE VAST MONEY GRUBBERS?

In the history of healing only in modern ages do we see healers becoming money makers.

It used to be , if you liked patching and helping people with health, you'd be a healer.

Now? It's who can make the most money the fastest with being a specialist.

As for medicine, because it benefits the people in whole, and not just a few hospital execs.

You must remember, medicine is to help . Not to make money from.

Be a lawyer or businessman if you want money, if you desire to heal be a doctor.

Most now should of been the former and that makes me sick, from a former field medic perspective.

Guild socialism is what is causing the problem. Welfare state socialism will not solve it. Abolish the AMA. What we NEED is capitalism in medicine to replace the socialist system we have been suffering under.
