Darkfall

Just looking at the graphics and how long this game has been in production is poor. There is no excuse why a game that has been in production for so long cant have both great visuals and gameplay.

Yeah, there is. The simple fact is that technology can only handle so much. While it is constantly improving, no amount of prior time spent working on the project (even if you wanted to go back to the stoneage) can make the players computer any better. It is a give and take, the more you add to graphics, the more stress is placed on the proccesor and the less people can fight together. If what you say was true, FPS games would have servers that accomodated hundreds of players, but they usually can't even get close to fifty.

I play EVE and most agree that EVE is graphically amazing. But I hardly notice since graphics do not make EVE for me. It's gameplay. I'm all focused on little red boxes and my modules flashing or not, numbers like range and velocity. Graphics?!?

It's about gameplay and if darkfall delivers that who cares if we are boxes floating around.

Neutral/Skeptic:  They arent the best in the industry but are certainly current generation and are acceptable for todays games.

Honestly guys (not just you) you need to stop with all this graphics issue bullshit.
You need obviously a new pair of glasses, because I cannot understand how can you rate DF graphic outdated.

You need to stop this.
You can criticise DF because you don't like full loot PvP, because you don't like the sandbox design, the animation, or even because it looks vaporware.
But please stop with this argument that the graphic look crap, we aren't blind and we are able to make a fair assessement if we like what we see or not.

I said it before and I am gonna repeat it.
To me, DF graphics are second only to AoC, and that's a honest opinion.
Find any MMO (not single game) which looks better than DF...........I really want to have a laugh.


PS: You also need to keep in mind that 3/4 of the screens in the official gallery are quite old and they don't rappresent the latest version of the game which has been updated sometimes in 2006.
Most of those graphics don't exists anymore in the game.

It is just something they are trying to hold on to because they cant really try to flamebait by calling it vapor or a scam anymore so this is the next best thing.  Best to ignore them.  Anyone with half a brain knows the graphics arent outdated, not even close.  Art style is personal taste and some people will love it, others hate it.  Pretty much everyone agrees that the animations could be better.

Yet these threads still come up...

  It's the gameplay that really is the staying power for a game. It's the simple indie games like World of Goo that beat games like Crysis for how many people enjoy it. The MMO StarQuest online has a following. You can't get any more basic on the eye candy than that for a MMO, yet it has its following because of it's very deep gameplay behind the very simple graphics. It's all a matter of opinion. The dev stated themselves Darkfall is on their own engine so they easily can improve the graphics. You can see improvements in screen shots from over a few years ago to the latest ones.
