What is the best sandbox MMO out now? Is there one on the horizon I should be looking for? What makes a good sandbox mmo? |

UO or Ryzom No (edit: unless you're a pvp fanatic there are no sand boxes on the horizon) Short answer is freedom and variety. |

If you haven't already, check out Earthrise. It's in development, but is a major departure from the used up old concepts in mmos today. It has some features similar to the original SWG game, including a complex crafting system, and skill based character progression instead of levels. Looks pretty cool so far, but only time will tell if it will live up to the feature list. |

EVE Online is the best sandbox out right now. The problem is that it is the only true sandbox worth playing. UO is dated and the changes ruined it. Ryzom is basically just a borefest. The problem with EVE is that it is 100% ship-based. Fallen Earth is the next big hope for sandbox games. Darkfall looks great but who knows if/when it is going to go live. |

why do humans build, because it isn''t there |
WurmOnline is always worth atleast a glance for people that want a sandbox.
Takes the term litterally and goes towards simulation. All items and towns created by the players. The ability to completely change the landscape if you wanted to(raise/lower land, mining, and a few other mechanics you have less control over) and a PvP server where all these mechanics would mesh quite well if religion and combat systems were 'better'. All and all the best micro indy MMO(by this sites standards) that's out right now. |

I'd have to go with Fallen Earth as the next big one. Looking at the videos and such, looks like a very interesting game. I might have to actually start spending money to play games again |

EVE. With it's singler server environment, and over 250k+ subscribers, it takes the cake. It's pretty much the definition of a sandbox, but it's not for everyone. It's sci-fi, not fantasy. |

Shadowbane (if you can handle its engine) and EVE (space game) Look at my sig... there are no full player interaction, real RPG games on the market that are worth it |
