With CC stating that they are creating Eve fps for consoles and PC could they incorporate a ground combat mechanic once they add planetary flight? Would you still play Eve if they decided to add explorable worlds and FPS /mmo hybrid combat? If so do you think Eve would have a large enough playerbase to sustain all of eve space and fully developed game worlds? If they did add ground combat would you leave in fear of people being pulled away from space warfare? Do you think ground combat would be impossible for eve? even though the Devs are thinking about adding mech arena combat in stations as a mini-game? thanks for reading.
Edit: For the record I am in no way saying Eve needs a ground game, I'm just wondering. Personally I'm happy with eve getting Walk in stations with a few minigames to pass the time when im bored. I don't need full planetary territory control, eve is a great game as is. |

Ground game yes, but not with pod pilots going trigger happy on the ground. That would pretty much invalidate years of story and lore building. An Eve fps, if it comes out, would probably let you play from the eyes of a normal soldier, and pod pilots appearing as the gods (remember, pod pilots are immortal) of New Eden. Maybe you play yourself through a campaign with the goal to become one of the chosen pod pilots..mmaybe. Everything is speculation of course. |

Yeah I doubt that they will incorporate a ground game where you get out of your ship and take your pod pilot around in an fps enviroment. A capsuleer would never risk themselves like that. More than likely they will make the fps from the perspective of a grunt like bata said. They could still integrate it into the MMO somehow though. Possibly by having the results of the ground game apply to factional warfare or something. |

Could someone put a link to the backstory and stuff where it talks about pod pilots being immortal. I'd like to read it. |

It's pretty simple, actually. What do you do if your current bod dies? There is only one thing that could kill a capsuleer, and that's his cloning system failing, or him dying outside of his pod. No sane man will give up his immortality just so he can fire a gun.. |

The quality of the clone is always critical and this is a point that cannot be stressed enough. The closer the clone’s brain is to the original in shape and form the better the reviving process will work. The more different they are the more memory will be lost during the synaptic growth process. This is most clearly seen in the space industry. For a space captain to retain his license he must be connected to a cloning facility. But if he fails to buy himself a suitable clone, which he is not required to do by law, he will be given a generic clone instead at the time of death. As these generic clones are bound to have very different brains than the original the memory loss can be very severe. The best clones, made from certified human cadavers in perfect condition, are able to retain up to 99.99% of memory – a figure close enough to call the revived clone a true doppelganger of the original person.

I think i wouldn't mind incorporating such feature as ground combat would be. However it would have to be in EVE style, meaning you cannot be forced to do that (like you're not forced to manufacture, trade, fight, etc.) |

Don''t like what I wrote? then don''t read it |
Interesting Idea could see it working, maybe new character selection process where you either be a soilder OR a pod pilot. Plus all those near useless market items like marines, guns, and other supplies could have more of an effect, would be good if the two 'worlds' could combine to add to results in FW or system control.. Or by the sounds of things since you mentioned consoles I think it may just be a stand alone game, either way I think if its done right we are in for a big treat!! |
