Darkfall

Just a quick question with a Poll to see if this is important to anyone else besides myself.  As the time draws closer to the end of the year I am wondering if they will still have time to offer the Open Beta and/or a Free Trial as they said they hoped to offer.

Just curious if those would prevent anyone else from buying the final product at release if those are not offered.  My hope is they will delay the release (if needed) to be able to provide an Open Beta and also provide a Free Trial download that would allow people to try the game for free before they purchase it.

No, I wouldn't. They need to show me they've got something, first.

Obviously not a lot of votes yet, but I'm curious if one of those that voted Yes would like to expound upon their reasoning? 

Given what we know of the MMO genre, I guess I'm surprised there would be even 1 who would buy not just DarkFall... but ANY MMO without an Open Beta or Free Trial. 

Perhaps the promise of what DarkFall could be is enough?  I guess I just don't have that kind of trust anymore.  Hopefully the DarkFall Devs will do the right thing as they've stated time and again that they will... we'll all find out soon. 

I am not going to ever buy another game until after six months and see if it still exist or is 1/2 decent.

I haven't played a demo of single player game since Final Fantasy VII. I could live without open beta/free trial. I've relied on rigorous analysis of professional and customer reviews and I have rarely been disappointed with a purchase.

This is the first game I would ever consider a preorder for but I would have to be in closed beta first to make that type of commitment.

Regardless the game not having open beta or a free trial would be viewed negatively on Aventurine because they expressed strongly their philosophy that players should be able to have a feel for the game before they commit to a purchase.

I voted yes.. two reasons

I've bought crap in the past (FFXI was crap to me folks.. sorry), I also purchased AC2, TWICE (lost the first copy, and then had to buy another), I bought AoC on hype ALONE, I've purchased Every battlefield title, and played the entire series less than 3 hours, same with Star Wars..  I recently bought a keyboard for use with my laptop (gaming keyboard) and HARDLY use that.. so.. Yeah..

And two, I don't see darkfall costing more than 30 bucks to start..  It's not like they have to pay for advertising, or a shit ton of developers.. thus they won't need to charge as much everyone else. And if I can get at least 4 hours of entertainment out of it.. it'll be fine.. and better yet.. if it stinks to high heaven, I can say I bought the game and.. again.. watch the fanbois slither about..

I said yes, regardless of what everyone says, the only way to make up your own mind about playing a game whether its good or bad is to try it for yourself. You cant really believe what everyone says unless you experienced it. People spend money all the time, you do what you wanna do with your money, and dont tell me how to spend my money. If its a good game, terrific. But if its a bad game, its my loss not yours.

Only MMOs I would buy without trying first are either ones that are sequels to game I like, Guildwars 2 is one or are based on a RPG world I love like world of darkness online or if someone actually do a forgotten realm based game.

If they don't at least let me try for a few hours I would suspect that they have something to hide.

Thanks for the honest opinion and your reasoning behind it.

I don't happen to agree, but that's the whole point of an internet forum like this... we get to share our opinions and then weigh the arguements for or against a particular topic.
