I have been a swords and sorcery mmo gamer since day one, but in the recent years the player base on the top swords and sorcery games is too small(an understatement really). I am considering making the move to EVE because I have read that they don't implement multiple servers; everyone is logged into the same server world. A difference between thousands(or even tens of thousands) and hundreds of people logged into a server at any given time. Are there any pay to play swords and sorcery games out there that use only a single game world for its entire player base? Anyone have a list including both swords and sorcery and sci-fi/post apocolypse?

Eve is the only one I know off but Guildwars uses a realm server (One for EU, one for US and so on) and you can choose to play on a international instance if you want that, everyone can go there. Since the different regions compete in PvP it have some logic in having a few servers (5 or 6 I think).

Guildwars is a bit bigger than Eve anyways (was the second highest MMO on X-fire last time I checked a week ago and 8 counting all games).

There might be some smaller games doing this too, but the only ones I know about are games like Runes of Magic that are still in beta.

Help someone who can not return the favor.

Generally games that are in beta only have one server and then open up one or two others once it releases. I don't know of any games, besides GW and Dark & Light, that only have/had a single server. It sounds like it'd be more of a hassle if you're a smaller company (arcticle). However there are a few games where you can port between channels on servers in order to find more people such as Wizard101 and D&D Online if I remember correctly.

For what you describe, Guild Wars is prolly the best for you.

It is F2P once you have purchased the box game or digital download. No Monthly fees.

Do not let the F2P scare you away from guild wars however.

I no longer play guild wars, however I did for about 2 years, and I will tell you it is the most polished better looking F2P game on the market.

As stated by another poster, The GW World is one huge server however it is broken down into instances for each town or zone.

That being said when you go into a zone it will be like this.

Droknars Forge US - 1

There will be a pull down menu on your screen that will allow you to jump to the diff instances of that particular zone.

So if you are in Droknars Forge US - 1 but your buddy is in Droknars Forge US - 5, either of you simply pull down the menu and switch to the agreed on area.

Chats span all instances so you can speak to through a whisper regardless of where you are.

The game has everything needed, PvE, exploring, mini games, top notch PvP, and it would fit well into your swords and sorc. theme. It even looks post apocolyptic is some areas.

Give it a shot with the core game prophecies, if you like it, pick up all it's expansion packs and have a blast.

I would give the game a 8.5 out of 10.
