I have tried to get into eve several times. and i enjoy the game but never can really stick with it. part of the reason, or so i think, is because i have been playing the game solo. none of my friends that i normally game with like the sci-fi genre. are there any good corps for new players that will help get me into the game and give me some direction?

I don't know if they still operate, but I think they should. Try finding EVE University. It's a corp specializing in teaching new players the basics and helping them get into the swing of things.

Back when I was playing they were a real good place for people who had no previous connections in the game.

After reading some of the threads in this forum I've decided to give this game a go, so I've been talking to some of my mates about getting started. One of the first things they told me was to look up EvE Uni, apparently they are very helpfull and a good way to get into the game.

I was in Eve Uni for a year or so and I can't say enough good things about them.  The classes are very profesionally done as well as the enormous amount of content in the forums and saved mp3's that walk you through everything from setting up your overview to trading, industry and fleet movement.

It should almost be required for all new people to go through it, plus with the occasional war dec you get some pvp experience as well.  You can't go wrong joining and you can stay as long as you like.  I do recommend that you participate in the classes and so forth, after your first one you'll realize how helpful they are and fun as well as oftentimes you practice on your corpmates.
