Tam Arte Quam Marte

I beta tested WoW for almost a year before release. I then played extensively until about 6 months or so after release. I came back a few times, but never stayed for very long. I gave up and adopted the WoW is the devil mantra until TBC was release.

I was reluctant to go back, but some of my friends who I played with at release were trying really hard to come back. They said they missed playing with me, yadda yadda yadda, but when I came back I realized real fast that they didn't have a Mage and just needed a portable mana juice dispenser and taxi. Needless to say, I quit again shortly after.

Today, against my better judgement, I'm thinking about going down to the store and picking up a copy of Wrath of the Lich King. The only reason I'm even considering it is because Gears of War 2 is pretty glicthy and Epic is slow to fix things, not to mention the excruciating wait for the patch to pass through Microsoft's certification process.

Long story short, I'm bored, I want to play Gears 2, but can't bring myself to endure the sketchy bugs and I'm looking for something to play while I wait impatiently for Epic to fix what will be an awesome game.

If I do get it, I'll be starting up a Death Knight. I like tanking, but I hate the Rage mechanics of Warriors. I've read that DKs mechanics are similar. Any insight or pearls of wisdom would help me out alot.

live is like a box of.....

I left WoW more then 2 years ago long before the 1st expansion.

Now i returned to enjoy the 2 expansions, take the hike to 80 and enjoy as longas it lasts or untill a new more exciting game catches my eye....

WoW is far from p[erfect, but most of it is enjoyable and a better pass time then watching TV...

Not really.  Because DK's have runes, you really don't need any runic power whatsoever to be semi-effective, the runic power is just a supplement to your real power which is the rune system.  DK's are what Warriors should have been all along.  Having said that I have not tanked using a DK yet, so I don't know what that's like, but the rune system really can't be compared to the rage system on Warriors.  I didn't like it either and I'm loving the DK.  As always your mileage may vary.

The best comparison I have to DKs system isn't warriors, its rogues.  The runes are a bit like energy (it does come in 3 flavors, but it has the fast regen, start out full, use completely feel of energy).  Runic power is like combo points - you have to build it up to pull off 'finishers.'

It's obviously more intricate than that, but it does have a roguish feel.

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

I agree.  It's closer to playing as a rogue than a warrior.  The one thing the warrior and DK have in common is that your runic power starts to drop if are not in combat so you want to stay in combat all the time.  There's almost no downtime and you'll want to keep it that way.
