"However big you think you are" |
Originally posted by ArcAngel3 Actually it is worse, because the boosterpacks work like a lottery. You cant simply buy the ingame items from SOE, but have to buy boosterpacks, hope it contains such an ingame item. People still do it though, just check the official trade forums (SWG and SOE strategy).
someforumguy is absolutely correct. I recently sent an email to the State of Texas Lottery Commission informing them of what $OE is doing with this TCG cash grab. Their reply basically stated that if the TCG indeed functions the way I described to them (which I sent them a C&P of Valara's own Oboard post describing the TCG), they are obliged to publish the odds of "winning" said items or be in violation of State gambling laws. ArcAngel, you're our resident law expert... Care to weigh in on this one?
Sounds to me like you already spoke to the experts :). Nobody would have a better view than the lottery commission. Good research. I wonder what they'd say if you told them there were posts of people losing hundreds of dollars trying to win a loot card, and failing, without being informed of the odds. I'd love to hear that one.
The 'loophole" is that they give away free booster packs. I think the dude SOE hired from the goldfarming company knows all the tricks to the trade. Pure speculation on my part though, as usual. |

Originally posted by Burntvet "Need" is word that means different things to different people, as being so subjective, can have no real value in a discussion. Substitute "provides a competitive advantage" for "need" and you are getting closer to it. As I just stated, the buying/selling of TCG packs can and does provide a competitive advantage to those willing to pay SOE more money. This is aside from the loot cards themselves. Some of the cards DO provide a competitve advantage, the Gorax Ear, for one, and I am sure there are others (can't speak on this point), or will be. And yes, the Gorax Ear provides something comparable to other in game items, but you can BUY your way to one of these (Pay money, get competitive advantage) without having to "work" to get one of the others. But many loot cards are mostly cosmetic in nature. For now. And that is not considering the fact that all of the new vehicles and art and the rest take potential content away from crafters, who could probably use it.
And as a big "I told you so!" to the people who said TCG loot cards are only "cosmetic" and don't affect game play. Here's a little snippet (and a BIG "I told you so") from the press release on the TCG Expansion: • New Loot Cards – More than 20 new Loot Cards will be available, including the V-wing Starfighter and a powerful buff, the Sanyassan Skull, that can be redeemed with an active account* in the Star Wars Galaxies MMO.
SOE's words, not mine. In case there was any remaining doubt: TCG = RMT for items/buffs. Pay SOE more money, get an advantage over everyone else paying a subscription. SWG is now $WG-RMT.
We told you so, but I guess all of we Vets were just spewing hate....

Right about what? and what do you mean "we" ? TCG has been implemented the same way in every SOE game it has been added to. Along with the fact that SWG was the last SOE game (of those that have it) to get it.. wtf does this have to do with SWG? For the longest time on Antonia Bayle in EQ2 was a guy that would spam all day every day... 300 plat to the first person to buy me a box of cards. 300 plat was a bit more than if you spent the same money for plat... so you gave him the cards he gave you the plat. Then if he got lucky he got some illusions people wanted and made more than 300 plat back. I can understand if people don't want to see this in MMO's period... But again what has this to do with SWG on a specific level? Its more of a general SOE thing.. or at least applies to most all the games equally. *edited to add* There were some really nice items in EQ2 from the TCG as well.. some at least on par with similar raid items. So this has never been a system that only added "fluff" items to any SOE game I've played that had it. |

| *** The sad thing is that in 2008 "Crap in a Box" could have won MMO of the year. |

This is the second or greater instance where a an item you pay to get, influeces gameplay to the advantage of the person that pays to get it.. This has NO place in subscription based game. Want to have an item mall in a F2P. FIne. Everyone knows the deal. But putting this crap in to boost revenue in an existing game? Simply shows what SOE is about: greed and not the players.

No details on what this so called "powerful" buff does, nor is there any details on the V-wing specs. I wouldn't be surprised if, like the first set of loot cards, the buff is an alternative to something already in the game and the V-Wing has simillar specs to current ships. Something new yes, something game altering, no. |
