Crafting, does it make the best gear -- or is looted gear?

Also, I'm mostly a casual player who will be solo'ing.  I'm not a fan of pet classess... though spell casters are my favoirte.  Which spellcaster class is good at solo'ing if any?

Generally the best gear is dropped on raids, so looted.

There is a small exception and that are dropped recipes on raids. With those recipes you can craft better weapons (as example) as the usual raidmob drops.

Also there are atm new cratedrops on shores of darkness which let you craft new high level equipment. Not sure how good those is, the area is new.

There are 4 caster classes.

Necromancer - the only real petclass

Sorcerer - Heavy Nuker, not much crowd control.

Druid - Nukes and a ton of different utility, which stops working on raids.

Psi - Nukes and a lot of utility, also usable on raids.

From the caster the sorc is probably weakest solo.

And I want to mention that you can raid as a casual too. For example in the raid Im in, there are people which can only play to 11pm, some can only raid 2 times a week, some have childs, some have aggro girl/boyfriends which force them to leave and so on...

No you dont have to raid.

What exactly is a raid, and is it for max level only?

A raid is a bunch of people trying to kill a nasty raidmob, which is usually an opponent with some kind of special attack and an insane number of hitpoints. Its a pretty funny thing, sometimes its sad though.

There are a ton of content even without raiding. If you are a casual player take your time, try diplomacy and crafting. There are a lot of solo adventuring content as well, but even more group content. I am a casual player and mostly solo, but sometimes group, to me VG is the best game due to the world and freedom in it compared to most other games. Also the classes are great and varied.

My only problem with the game is that the client still is not the best.

crafting does make awesome gear for pvp and pve.  you need crafted or swamp to get started in apw.

druid druid druid atm they stand alone as the op class or a psi.

a psi is a better choice for raids. if you ever feel like raiding later on in your vg career.

I'm a necro myself. I solo almost entirely. Every once in awhile i'll get lonely and group up.

I just solo'd from 38-40 in 5 hours so the game is pretty casual.

Sorry but there are two real pet classes..1 necro 2 shamen.
