Darkfall

If Darkfall is a success, will Claus Grovdal  reach the same status as Brad McQuaid had (Prior to the let down that VG was..) or the same status that Richard Garriot reached (prior to TR)

The reason I'm asking, is that he is the front man of Aventurine studios.. and it would make sense that he may be awarded the prestigious  title of "Darkfall's Creator"

Umm you mixed it up. I know it's easy to imagine Tasos is the lead figure because he's the only Aventurine person ever speaking, but he's just that, a spokesman/representative - Associate (assistant) Producer. Lead Game Designer/Producer of Darkfall is Claus Grovdal.

Yep what wumptrooper said, Claus was the creator of Darkfall and is the lead developer, there are 4 others who are also developers  originally from the start under Razorwax that still work on the project.

Tasos is only their PR guy and part investor/owner, he has no previous experience or qualifications in actual game development.

I voted yes although i do think it will take more than just 1 title to reach the status those people reached.

Also.. Claus Grovdal's name is rarely mentioned in the Darkfall community. Mostly we fans speak of Tasos. I realize that Tasos is a producer and not lead game designer.

But, I am really not sure.. I'd say they should all become very famous within the industry when Darkfall becomes a success. They work and have worked as a team for many years.

But, to become like Brad Mcquaid, Richard Garriot or Raph Koster you need to do something solo so you can take all the glory.

I think Tasos will get Legendary status no matter what is the outcome.

a) DF lives up to its promises Tasos he will gain Legendary status as the creator of the best MMO ever.

b) It does not live up to his promises and DF ends up being an empty shell, Tasos will gain Legendary status for the longest most hyped flop in MMO history.

Im still leaning towards option B. But yeah it will be ...Legendary.

No, I don't the the DF devs have a chance to be in the big leagues of Brad and Co.

The reason being, that to join these ranks, you need to have a game that captures the market place. UO did this as teh first 2d MMORPG, and EQ did this as the first 3d MMORPG. WoW devs have made their mark as the developers of the most successful MMORPG  ever, with over a billion in revenues.

Darkfall is PvP, and not only that, it's FFA PvP. This is a niche game. DF won't be the first anything, and has no chance to capture a huge market share. So, no, you don't get into the hall of fame that way.

If Darkfall succed, Aventurine will not get as much credit. Other people will quickly step in and take all credit. Lets face it, Aventurine is not made of stuff that legends are made of.

Dont belive me? Just take a look at other great stuff, someone else always get credits.

I don't think it's about credit. The OP mentions the founders of EQ and UO.

You can't be the first successful developer of a 2d MMORPG, or the first developer of a successful 3D MMORPG anymore, because there can only be one first.

So you're going to have to do something else, besides just develop a successful sandbox MMORPG. That's been done already, SWG, EVE, maybe others.

What is it you think Darkfall is going to do that would be deserving of being legendary? They are not going to build the next WoW, because the general public doesn't play FFA MMORPGs.

So Darkfall would do what exactly, that would be unique and legendary?
