First off some background, I played SWG for 3 years and left about 4-6 months after the NGE went live. I've had "discussions" with current players and ex players alike sinse then. Due to the lack of complex MMOs these days i've been seriously considering a re-sub the SWG, but i have a few questions to ask first if CURRENT players would be willing to answer them honestly and without any hyping please.

1. Is this new card scam that SOE introduced required to be competative?

2. Whats the population like on Kauri?

3. If Kauri population is too low could you tell me what the community is like on Chimeara please as i'm British and if i have to switch to a different server it would be Chimeara.

4. Whats the economy like? when i left the game, crafters meant nothing as decay was obliterated and loot drops were better with the NGE.

As you can see i make no mention of the professions or ask which is best etc as i prefer trial and error myself to see which suits me, when i left the game i had a 90 Jedi, 90 BH, maxed out Shipwright and i believe was working on a Smuggler or Officer.

I thank you for taking to time to read this and would very much like to recieve decent input rather than have this thread turn into a flame war like 99% of the others. I'm serious about thinking to re-sub but i could do with these questions answered honestly from current players without any bias involved from anyone before i make my final decision.

4. Whats the economy like? when i left the game, crafters meant nothing as decay was obliterated and loot drops were better with the NGE. best(and some would say only) real use for a trader is still to sell off loot

As you can see i make no mention of the professions or ask which is best etc as i prefer trial and error myself to see which suits me, when i left the game i had a 90 Jedi, 90 BH, maxed out Shipwright and i believe was working on a Smuggler or Officer. since they change the proffesions once or twice a year u may find yourself swithcing profs alot longterm

i only left 7 months ago and went back for some of the free month to check the population for myself and say high to some old friends(not that they were playing anymore)

currently trying out neocron 2 which seems to offer more complex gameplay

1. Is this new card scam that SOE introduced required to be competative?  No.  The 2 buffs that it does provide are only alternatives for buffs that can picked up in other ways.  Even then, they're not all that worthwhile in either form

2. Whats the population like on Kauri?  Not sure, don't play on it but i's always been one of the lowest populated.  There are free transfers on the way for those that are on low pop servers that would like to be on a more populated server.

3. If Kauri population is too low could you tell me what the community is like on Chimeara please as i'm British and if i have to switch to a different server it would be Chimeara.  Chimaera is one of the top populated servers - the Bria of the Euro servers.  Again, I don't play on this server so I can't tell you the feel of it but it does hit "Heavy" loads every now and then.

4. Whats the economy like? when i left the game, crafters meant nothing as decay was obliterated and loot drops were better with the NGE.  Everything crafters make is better then the loot alternatives.  There's no decay, but the only crafters that benefited from decay back in the days were WS, AS and Shipwright.  These professions still have a rather healthy market, even without decay.

There is actually a youtube video of Kauri in peak hours someone posted showing that he was unable to find a single person online.  The video is several months old but I think it is safe to say that Kauri is essentially dead.  Much like most of the smaller servers are today.

The economy isn't viable.  It's a combination of heavy loot and some crafting.  Obviously much hasn't changed to it since the NGE hit -- It suffers from hyper-inflation.

Sounds like you want to try Chimmy.  It's going to be the most populated Euro server.  It's usually medium, you will proably see about 50 or so people in Mos Eisley and maybe a dozen or so in Rustess and other places.  SWG isn't very populated, as you know, but Chimmy is going to offer you the best for what you want.

I can attest to this. I logged on with the free trial in July on my home galaxy of Kauri, and at peak hours I found 5 people total online, and 4 of them were afk. Kauri is a complete ghost town(which I have heard all but like 3 servers are now), and honestly going back to it was the most depressing game experience I have ever had. Seeing all of the placed I used to meet and interact with people, and all the people on my friends list who weren't logged on, and remembering who they were and all the good times I had with them before the NGE ruined everything... Incredibly sad. Don't do that to yourself...

Obraik had a good response in terms of card game items and crafting. First, I consider myself rather competitive in pvp - I have nothing from the card game.

Crafting? I think I've said it before, there is a healthy market for foods. Not the same foods you used pre-nge but there are still about 10 well selling foods. And hte market it competitive - good crafters can charge a premium for theit foods created with good additives.

I make socketed clothes and sell out all the time... I pull resources and sell em - that's where i make most of my credits b/c I just am not into crafting.

As for Kauri, i dont know from first hand experience but from what I read and hear, its not very well populated. If you SERIOUSLY want to get back into it, pay the $50.00 and transfer to Bria or Starsider. Or start from scratch (i never like that option in any mmo)

Was once the unoficial French server, it is dead now try Bria, Bloodfin, or Starsider these 3 are the most populated servers, I have toons on all three.

The game is a lot of fun again with the content they added and the NGE is stable and the the combat issues have been fixed.

It still is a sandbox and still fun.
