I just noticed the 14 day trial Ad on the home page, it displayed Ultimate PvP for elite players..

What exactly does that mean?  I tried this game for roughly 4 hours and was already bored of the constant grind....

"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"

I cam tell why i think the title is such:

The politics in the game run the everything. Players in clans fight for control of castles and believe me it usually isnt pretty. Ofc as you stated the grind is big...but i played it for 2 years and i enjoyed it. Its not really a game for everyone but if you get passed the grind it can be a fun game. There are many bad things to this game.....but the PvP is certainly fun and dramatic. As far as elite goes....theres a tendency to think that L2 isnt for the light hearted, not only because of the huge grind to get everything etc...but also because if your not a strong person (outside of game) the politics can ruin everything for you. People have the tendency to think that if your good in pvp in L2 you can own anyone else is the rest of the MMORPGS.

I my own view i found the game fun and the pvp extremely engaging (nothing like whiping out another clan for PKing your lv 34 friend lol. But like i said its not for everyone...the game is really meant for extremely hardcore people.

LOL the grind isn't really there untill you reach the endgame and even then its not so bad if you have the right crowd around you.

The simple fact that you refuse or are unable to grasp is that MMO's are about the community not your individual entertainment. If you want individual entertainment go play Xbox, PS2 or a single player PC game...

Its the first step in begining to enjoy any MMO and L2 in particular, as very few other MMO's place you in such a vulnerable environment directly from the begining. L2's millieu expects you to earn every shred of progress in the game. All rewards are earnt not given out simply for moving around the map... Quests are there because you need something, not to give you something to do, althrough some of the noobie quests do follow that formula. Its abandoned quickly tho and quests in L2 become more like trials than some handout sessions for your subscription and time spent online as you may have experienced in other MMO's.

Its meant to be the journey NOT the endstate that makes the game. Unless you've battled for your room in Cruma, ralied your clan to a running battle accross the Exe grounds vs arival clan, or explored the dreaded Pirate's Isle racing your opposition to its spoils or participated in any other similar day to day adventure, you just haven't played the game. Siege's and PvP War's are likewise fun, but unless you've ebayed your ass off you will not be able to sustain the effort because unlike other games the economy of L2 demands a significant toll for "privilege" of PvP. You need to work together to prepare for L2 and marshall your resources accordingly for short bursts of activity since all consumables in L2 cost money... a lot of it !! The larger your clan the easier it is to share the cost and the grind becomes more trivial !

The endgame in any MMO MUST be rewarding as it signifies the end of the journey, but in L2 this is even more pronounced since the primary timesink in the game is levelling.

To reiterate, the advertising might not be there but L2 is not a game for solo players, not by virtue of design but more so by the social interactions which are necessary in order to progress and succeed in the endgame.

Why is the pvp elite? Because if you kill people enough times they quit the game.

To make a difference in the game you gotta devote alot of time to it. Just like in the sports world where elite athletes use alot of time training you gotta devote alot of time to develop your character to get to the point where you can make a difference on the field in pvp.

I think thats what NCsoft is implying. It's called Hardcore MMORPG - big wins, big losses.

-Even samurai have teddybears and even teddybears get drunk-

Elite being "Gankaton" to be honest.
Problem with Lineage II is that people get too serious in it..
Remember the news of gamers killing eachother RL over a game.. This would be the game.

Sure it has it's appeal but it shoots itself in the foot as when it comes down to it all,
you'll spend an EverQuest amount of time getting things you'll lose quickly to more experienced (and in bigger numbers) players and now have the choice to do it again or buy from farmers...
You get the idea here.
Sure, some like the whole "zomg I'm so cool because our 360 people ganked one high level player and got his weapon and we're so damn cool"
While some, or most, of us prefer to hear "Hell that was a long fight and their team of equal size sure were skilled, glad we had such a good communication..

Think WoW: STV on a PvP server, but end-game and you lose items..

Edit: And, ya, this is one of the few games that think that you're playing because you want to be like everyone else and do it for 'the higher cause'
Whereas most MMO's have the decency to realize that, hey, these are individuals that want to cater for their individual needs...

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.

Hang on. Since when did MMO's turn "not individual entertainment"? Are you saying I can't enjoy an MMO by myself? That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

You must be one of those guys that actually wake up and play an MMO through the day, till late nights? A so called "no lifer". In that case, I totally understand.

What YOU refuse or are unable to grasp is that MMO's represent a massive freedom to basically do anything you please (Within the game's own limits offcourse).  Whether killing other players or going down a dungeon to seek out riches, to go fish an hour or so or head out to find some ores....and yes...even playing by yourself or grouping up with people. THAT is what MMO's are all about. Telling other people they NEED to group is seriously.........dumb.

That is your opinion L2 has 17 million subscribers world wide so there must be alot of really dumb people.  The the previous post pointed out rightfully so that L2 is about community.  Your ment to do things as a group.  Guilds/clans are differnt here they mean something its not just a group of people you text chat with.

Instead of saying its stupid why not just say oh I get it and I like solo games so this is not for me.  Its kind of evil to bash the game just because you don't enjoy it.
