Mitsutoshi Gondai – Planner & Akihiko Matsui – Battle Director recently spoke with MMORPG.com's own Carolyn Koh about the two new jobs added in their latest expansion for Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess.

MMORPG.com:

What does the Dancer bring to the table that is new and what, if anything, is shared with older jobs?

SquareEnix:

First and foremost, dancers require TP in order to activate their abilities. When I thought about designing a healer that hits the enemy, I decided to make TP a necessary component of the job in order to give dancers a reason to be in melee. Another new element is the dancer's ability to alter the enemy using Samba moves, wherein other party members gain various effects from attacking the altered opponent. The short duration of Samba effects on a target was another way to ensure the dancer remained on the front line.

Finishing moves were added as a way to activate abilities that didn't rely on HP, MP, or TP. This element brings a level of complexity to the job that prevents the dancer's actions from being subject to nothing more than the recast timer.

Read it all here.

Cheers,

I hope they don't nerf Dancer. Even though it can solo good and can melee/heal, it has some weaknesses too. Using TP to heal other than MP does have it's bad side. Sure you don't have to rest, but when the battle gets tough I'd rather have a MP-using healer that can cure any time needed when properly rested than a TP-using healer that has to build TP to throw a cure that's not even as potent as the MP-healer. Scholar does need a buff though, right now it's mostly used for support jobs..

I think this may have factored into their thinking.

I was afraid it might lead to one of the knee-jerk over-reactions that tend to happen from time to time in FFXI where an entire change in "how to best play the game" comes about based on some discovery or change in the game. Ninja tanking comes to mind as an example.

When I started seeing a dancer - sometimes two - in virtually every party, I was really afraid that WHM were going to be demoted to lesser desirable position. I was glad to see it wasn't the case.

Gladly, there are still WHMs aplenty and often times there's a DNC and WHM in the party, splitting duties.

Seems to me like DNC is what SE wants it to be. SCH is the one that needs work to bring it up to level.

Yea I have been thinking of ninja tanking to, and I think that the ninja is over powered, as it is the best tank and a good dmg dealer at the same time, but I know what you could do to make it more fair, more ninja likely at the same time, here is the thing:

As ninjas are in RL (or what they were in the past) is bloody killers most assassins, but also they got the image of being hard to hit, they where good stealthing in the RL to, and thats probably what SE whant the ninjsutsu skill to do, make the ninja look ninja, because ninjas are hard to hit (Utsusemi makes a big chance of that ninjas dont get hit) and In FFXI the mobs get more angry (more hate to the player) if it dont hit him so there for the utsusemi skill also helps keeping hate. So what if the Utsusemi magic made the mob give less hate or totally have non hate to ninjas, the ninjas wouldnt have any hate and there for the mob wouldnt atk the ninjas and provoking the mob wouldnt make it better because you would loose the hate at the moment the mob tryid to atk you. That would also some how make the ninjas more ninja xD
