Ok I played Vanguard at release and again at the start of 2008(alot of people where saying then how great it was now). My questions are before I go to the load the game and try again are... 1.How is the preformance now,is it more stable even in cities? 2.Is zonning still there? 3.I am from europe can anyone say how the population is? I did enjoy alot of what Vanguard had to offer,My bear shammy was 1 of the best guys I have every played on a mmo but the problems I listed above really tore that apart,The population was ofc the worst, lets be honest you cant play a mmo without alot of people around you, also the preformance was pretty terrible at times,I run a 2.66 duo core with 4gb ram 8800gt 512mb card and vista 32bit,so would like to run it smoothly. Thanks for any answer's guys and try to keep them troll free and honest :) |

It plays better when I played earlier this year with the free month. Zoning is in every MMO, just vanguard is more seamless so zoning might feel a little stranger then a load screen. When you move from 1 chunk of land to the other it was definately more optimized though as an experience.
Endgame is getting there, but I never got to try it, quest work better. There was one major quest that was broken but it was "just" broken. A simple gm ticket gave me the quest item in a matter of minutes and I was off again doing my thing. The game feels alot more complete now definately though if you hated it before there probally isnt much more to bring you back. Diplomacy is still a mess past the low level quest. |

Originally posted by daylight011. Game Update 5 was just released. It included an anti-hitching code that allows the client to precompile and save shaders. It has made a world of difference (between Jan 2008 and now). They've also, of course, polished, cleaned up, fixed bugs, etc in this patch and let us know that one of the big anti-hitching fixes was held back to test further before pushing live (so more performance fixes to come). I think the only city I still get some lag/hitch in is NT. Other than that, from Khal to Mekalia, they're running great. 2. If by "zoning" you are referring to the chunks, yes they are still there (and probably always will be.) The honest truth is that the UR engine was never meant to build a world as big as Telon and keep it seamless. The chunks are there, but after the recent patch, it usually takes 1-4 seconds to load the next one. You'll know when you hit a chunk, but you'll be back to business before you can say "chunk" 3. I am not sure of the current population of the EU server. It would depend on whether you play at odd EU times (primetime here) or not, but the US servers have healthy pops. With the rig you listed above you should be able to push VG to the max. I run the same processor, 4gb ram, and a 3870 512MB and I run everything at max at 1680x1050. I average around 50-60FPS (I keep it synced with my refresh rate) outdoors and 30-40 in cities. Hope that helps. |

Thankls malivius can I ask 1 more question m8 as you seem to have the same setup as me,my biggest problem before was entering a city and running through it,I had to do the stop and do 2 or 3 360 turns so I could move again every few sec's are your fps holding steady in cities or do you still have alot of 8fps until it loads the screen and give you 30-40 fps? Again ty m8. |

Originally posted by daylight01Here's my experience as far as the new update goes. After I initially updated/precompiled the textures (only does this 1x, then saves them for you from there on out) I had to do the "turn and load" 1x in Khal. After that one time (done the day of the patch - late May), I log on and take off. Khal loads just as smoothly as anything else. If I understand it correctly, it now loads the shaders into RAM when you fire up the game, and the shader folder grows as you explore more, so you hit a zone once, gather up the shaders, and from there on out, everything runs smooth. (Thankfully, this includes going outdoors to indoors, and vice versa). I'd like to give the genius who thought of this a big pat on the back. It works very well.

I bought a new system just for Vanguard at release and I still have that same system. Core 2 Quad 2.6ghz, 2 gig mem, 8800GTX 756mem, XP At release I could only run the system at 50-75% max graphic settings and I had same problems in cities. Right now I have graphics set to max and have very little problems in cities. Of course, the smaller populations could have something to do with cities running better and possibly all the other performance problems.. but I doubt it. I'm going to stick with the game for awhile and several of my friends are talking about coming back. I would recommend giving it another try. You already have an account, so your only out 1 month fee. I dropped $50 for AoC and I won't even finish up the 30 free days. |

Originally posted by JT Yep I have to admit even with the bugs etc the 2 other times I played vanguard I still had more fun than I did with AoC,I have also already removed AoC from my hard-drive as it wasnt for me and the disc's can sit on the shelves never to be looked at again,I have always enjoyed the idea of VG but with the problems it had and also the population I gave up the 2 times I tried but always hoped it would come to the top as the idea and game is there it just needed sorting out. |
