John Romero is about to make you his bitch... Suck it down.

I can't make the same recommendation, unfortunately. I was taking a break from EQ2 and decided that I would blow $15 (Why not?) on Vanguard in order to try it out. Needless to say, the game was deleted within a week (most don't last that long I hear). Everything that you've heard about this game is true. Sure, the engine is MUCH MORE optimized than before, resulting in lesser amounts of lag (notice how I say "lesser?") on some systems. This doesn't mean anything, though. Combat and crafting = unpolished - the preloaded UI is horrible and scant (had to find a mod myself), and the fun-factor is almost nonexistent.

Had some good ideas, though.

Non -existant fun factor ????

Dumbest thing I've ever heard -

This game is AMAZING

Some of the most diverse classes and abilities in any MMO - great dungeons - good challenge - NO INSTANCES - and lots of people running around...at least in my level bracket (14-20)

I fell the same about everquest 2, I hated it, smal zones. unoptimized engine. stayed in basically the same place for the first 10 levels. just awful, enviroments were terrible.  Vanguard is much better.

Waiting for the WAR beta to open back up.

If you like EQ1 open world and EQ2 quests then you will like Vanguard. I just came back and I can't stop playing.

I swear that if you turn the graphics all the way down - you are back in EQ1

EQ2 and WoW  are so linear and boring till VG have freedom that make gameplay realy great. The only problems in VG are video lag on mid and low end machines and the fact that you have to think what to do (in cotrast to EQ2 and WoW PvE)

Played: UO, Redmoon, RuneScape, Astonia 3, MU, L2, AO, DAoC, EQ2, WoW, GW, LotRO,Ryzom, VG, EVE, Wurm, WAR
Tested(Beta): L1, LoM, L2, WoW, VG, WAR.
UO is the only game that still miss me :(

Alright, I can understand the "fanboyism" - it's perfectly alright. Just ask yourself this question: "What has this game accomplished that makes it new, fun, and exciting for players?" The general answer is: "nothing." I felt like I was in DAOC/EQ2/WoW all over again (granted all of those titles are very excellent MMOs), I simply won't pay a monthly fee for something I can get in a much more polished, much more bug-free game. These reports of highly populated servers also puzzle me, mainly because when I played about a month ago all of the servers were everything but full. The quests were bugged and the content was virtually null - how does that equate into a "fun" game? The fact of the matter is this: V:SOH was launched in a very poor state and is continuing to struggle after failing to live up to the hype propagated by both the developers and SOE (both are equally to blame).

Yeah, I'll have to challenge that line of thinking. What do you mean by "freedom?" A massive, non-instanced world map that looks mediocre and only causes very good PC machines to run poorly? What really makes this game any different? Looks like the same to me: "click and forget" gameplay with some skill hotbar mashing.
